Hobby Horse - Rustic Maine Cabin, Ocean Access 22 miles from Acadia Nat'l Park

  • This rustic, cozy 2-bedroom cottage was originally a blacksmith shop. It has been converted to a Maine style "camp" with 1 queen bed and 2 twin beds (twin beds are not suitable for adults). It is very private on a large property. Enjoy ocean access to Contention Cove for beach combing, walking the shore and swimming. Eagle, deer and other nature abounds in this peaceful setting.

    Dogs are allowed, please contact us in advance with the type/size of the dog. There will be a $175 non-refundable fee added to your reservation.

    For the comfort of all our guests, no smoking is allowed.

Adorable cabin! Rustic, comfy, charming and equipped with everything you need. This is a fantastic place tucked back in the woods along with access to a beautiful cove. It was nice and private feeling but close to everything the area has to offer. We would absolutely stay again!

Beautiful beach hideaway

There's much to recommend the Hobby Horse but the woodland path access to the beautiful rocky beach which we found excellent for swimming on some unusually hot June days can't be beat!

Great Stay in Surry

Wonderful cabin in the woods

My husband and I spent three nights over our anniversary at the cabin and had such a relaxing, fun time. Everything was just as pictured and great location. The cabin is very comfortable and short drive from Bar Harbor and Acadia. Lots to do in the area. We hope to return again.

An amazing find

Such a cute spot to stay. Surry, Maine is a quiet small town and our VRBO was nestled in a small cluster of homes right up against Contention Cove. Two minute walk to the beach, all the necessary amenities will definitely make this a place to come back to!

Cozy cabin

Little chilly this time of year but space heaters did the trick. Cozy, rustic little cabin in the woods. We were quite comfortable and the location worked well for us. Liked the windows in the LR and charm/history of the place.

Perfect!

Even better than the listing! Well appointed with plenty of dishes and linens. Ocean access down the hill was wonderful. Great location for those going to Ellsworth and Acadia.

Maine costal getaway

Husband and I stayed here to celebrate our wedding anniversary 30th. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and had microwave, coffee maker, as well as all the pans and dishes needed. Beach was a short walk away and fun to explore. Cool breeze from ocean was lovely in the evening.

Acadia

Such a lovely cabin. The pictures don’t show off how cute this place is. The location is perfect. It’s calm around and Acadia and Bar Harbor aren’t that far away. The beach is only a few minute walk from the porch too. Liberal we loved it would would definitely come back for future Acadia trips!

Nice getaway

We were looking for a nice rustic cabin with privacy that had water access. The cabin was the perfecr place. Check in process was easy. Great location if you want a place that is private but still commutable to area attractions. The only reason i give it 4 stars instead of 5 was the lack of ceiling fans in the bedrooms and even a window air conditioner would have been great. It was very humid during our stay so nights were a bit uncomfortable. Still loved the place.

We have stayed at the Hobby Horse several times and with each visit, it feels more like our "second home." The cottage is always clean, comfortable and has everything you need in the kitchen. The town of Surry provides a perfect base camp location to enjoy surroundings from Acadia National Park, Ellsworth, Blue Hill and Belfast. This year we attended the Blue Hill Fair and it did not disappoint. A few consistent highlights for us include: Perry's Lobster Company, Pugnuts, Fogtown Brewery (Ellsworth), and hiking the Carter Nature Preserve. We also took advantage of Contention Cove, to relax and beach comb. We can't thank you enough for sharing the Hobby Horse with us and look forward to our next adventure. All the best!

A relaxing time away!

We were relaxed and at home from the moment we pulled up to the cabin. The location was very convenient--close enough to amenities and activities that you didn't have to be gone for the whole day if you didn't want to, yet far enough from hustle and bustle that you could just enjoy the sounds of nature. Our kids enjoyed the beach and exploring in the woods near the house. It got very cold on a couple of mornings so the whole house was damp, but once we pulled out the space heater it fixed that within an hour or two. There aren't a few modern things (dishwasher, washer and dryer) that we have grown accustomed to having, but we had no problem washing dishes by hand and going to the laundromat only a few miles away when we needed to. Overall, a great time that we all enjoyed.

We had an excellent stay! My husband, our four boys, and I absolutely loved the rustic cabin. It was cozy, clean, and the perfect place to relax after busy days exploring Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park.The recommendations for local shops and restaurants were fantastic and made our trip even more enjoyable. One of our favorite parts was the private beach—it was perfect for our little kids to play, explore, and unwind.The location was ideal. We loved being just a short drive from Bar Harbor while still having a peaceful, quiet place to come back to each evening. It gave our family the best of both worlds: easy access to all the attractions and a relaxing retreat away from the crowds.We highly recommend this cabin to families looking for a comfortable, peaceful getaway, and we would happily stay here again!

Great property. Very private and secluded. It did get cool outside (29 F), and the space heaters struggled to keep the cabin warm indoors, but we kept warm with blankets and layered clothing. We enjoyed our stay very much.

Hobby Horse was a wonderful "home away from home" for the week. The dogs had property to roam, plenty of ammentities in the house to never want to camp again, the the water access was amazing to go down and have coffee in the morning. Close enough for hiking, but out enough that youre not in the commotion of the big cities!Throughly enjoyed our stay!
