St Jame's Church at Swarkestone, Derby
Swarkestone Lock, Trent and Mersey Canal, Derbyshire This is a deep wide lock which drops the water level by nearly eleven feet (3.3 metres). The gate paddles are particularly fierce in the rate they allow water to enter the chamber.
Cuttle Bridge, Trent & Mersey Canal Cuttle Bridge, no 13, carries the A514 Derby - Swadlincote road over the canal.
Railway bridge at Swarkestone. The bridge carrying the Stenson Junction - Sheet Stores Junction railway over the Trent & Mersey Canal basks in a burst of autumn sunshine. This railway crosses the canal twice; this is the westernmost bridge.
Swarkestone Causeway The mediaeval Swarkestone Causeway was built in the late 13th/ early 14th century to cross the floodplain of the Trent. It has been reinforced and rebuilt in 18th and 19th centuries and still carries the busy A514 Derby to Melbourne road.
