"The food, atmosphere, and super friendly staff definitely make this place to return to. Staff was always friendly and very, very accommodating even with our limited Japanese vocabulary. Definitely the highlight of our trip for sure!"

"I think very few gaijin go this far out. Some of the communication was difficult but the staff tried really hard and we enjoyed the stay
Hard to navigate getting to and from major stations and it snowed one day at end of March
Overall I’m glad we did it for the experience to be immersed in Japanese culture.

"We had a very relaxing family holiday here. There were hardly any other guests when we stayed, and it was almost like having a private resort. The restaurant staff made us two lovely dinners and breakfasts, the first dinner was an intricate kaiseki spread, and the second was delicious grilled steak. Breakfast had plenty of options for both Japanese and Western style meals. The lounge area provided all the drinks and snacks and cup noodles we wanted, and we had a very nice walk around, and up into...

"I stayed only for one night but the hotel was excellent, staff were helpful, spacious Japanese style room. A bit of walk from the Kinugawa Onsen Station but it is a nice walk. I will stay again if I am in the area again."

"Our family enjoyed staying in the quiet countryside. The reservation includes a breakfast and dinner buffer, which was delicious. They also have complimentary drinks and snacks from 3 to 6pm. The hot springs felt relaxing as well. The hotel is isolated, and the nearest convenient store is a 10 minute walk away, but the trees and mountains really make you feel immersed in nature. Great reset from the hustle and bustle of city life."

"The room was beautiful and the private onsen is great for those who have tattoos that cannot be covered up. The rooms were spacious and the welcome snacks were delicious."

"The area around the property was really beautiful. Several things to do, we went to the monkey show which was interesting and to Edo Wonderland, which was very cool. However, this hotel is very old and needs to be updated. The outdoor bath was nice."

"Such a neat hotel nestled besides a picturesque river. The hotel feels nostalgic but very well maintained. The entire surrounding community is a throwback Show era town. Helpful staff at the reception desk and restaurant. Breakfast and lunch rotated between 2 menus but options were plentiful. This is my second visit to this hotel and it is in such a convenient location. Be sure to explore the Kinugawaonsen station and surrounding reservoirs and rural communities."
"If I could give this place more than five stars, I absolutely would!
This beautiful private villa in Nasu Highlands was beyond our expectations. The modern Japanese design, peaceful surroundings, and warm atmosphere made us feel like we were staying in our own home.
The villa was brand new, spotless, and cleaned perfectly—there was not a single speck of dust anywhere. Every detail was thoughtfully prepared. The full kitchen had all the cookware and dishes we needed, and the Nescafé machine with various coffee and tea options was a wonderful touch. A washer and dryer, laundry detergent, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, dish soap, and dishwasher detergent were all provided.
The private outdoor Jacuzzi bath was amazing. The artificial hot spring water left our skin incredibly soft and smooth, like a boiled egg the next morning!
The bedroom, large living room, tatami area, big TV, projector, and speaker system were perfect for our family. Our children especially loved the movie nights. The tabletop grill was also great for enjoying delicious Tochigi beef.
Check-in and check-out were very easy.
This villa truly felt like a luxury home away from home. The cleanliness, comfort, and thoughtful amenities were exceptional. We will definitely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Nasu Highlands!"

"Asaya Hotel is not only our favorite hotel in Kinugawa Onsen — it is honestly the main reason we return to Kinugawa Onsen at least once a year. Every stay reminds us why this hotel is so special.
We love the beautiful onsen facilities, especially the public baths with their larger and more spacious atmosphere. I personally prefer the public onsens, where I can fully relax and enjoy the traditional hot spring experience. My wife, on the other hand, especially enjoyed the private hot spring bath in our room, which she used throughout our stay. Having that private bath made the experience even more relaxing and convenient.
The food is another major highlight. Both the breakfast and dinner buffets are excellent, with a wide variety of choices and consistently good quality. The buffet experience is one of the things we always look forward to whenever we stay here.
Most importantly, the staff are genuinely friendly, professional, and caring. On the day of our departure, the taxi we had reserved was cancelled without our knowledge. Instead of simply apologizing or leaving us to figure it out, the hotel staff personally drove us to the train station. That level of hospitality really touched us and showed the heart of Japanese omotenashi service.
Asaya Hotel continues to be our “only hotel” choice whenever we visit Kinugawa Onsen. Between the onsens, the food, the service, and the warm hospitality, it truly feels like a place worth coming back to every year."
