Tashkent hotel
The booking through Expedia was actually handled by a middleman, not directly with the hotel itself. The hotel did not give me my proof of registration when I checked in. Normally the hotel guest should receive this right away, since it is needed if the police check your passport and definitely at passport control upon departure. The hotel gave it to the middleman, who contacted me the day before my departure to tell me they couldn't accept credit card payment (contrary to the information on Expedia). It was very inconvenient and uncomfortable dealing with this stranger who just showed up at the hotel for money. The hotel itself wasn't in good condition. When the picture on the TV went out, the maintenance man showed me where to hit the back of the TV to make it work again. He called it a "Soviet repair." The gap at the bottom of the door made it easy to hear all the noise in the hall. Water occasionally dripped from the bathroom ceiling. It was a cheap hotel, so I guess I got what I paid for.
