Part#1 - The Museum
The Borderland Museum Eichsfeld combines a museum, study centre and outdoor trail along the line of the former border. It occupies the former East German customs building at the crossing point between Duderstadt and Teistungen. The permanent exhibition documents the history of the border in the Eichsfeld region, which was divided between East and West Germany during the Cold War. A trail follows the old border fortifications up to a West German observation tower which was constructed to allow people to look into East Germany.

"Fijne 2 weken gehad in dit mooie huis net grote ruimte tuin met diverse zitjes. Contact met verhuurder verliep via WhatsApp; filmpjes en berichtjes en was prima. Omgeving is prima om te fietsen en te wandelen, en er zijn genoeg voorzieningen om ergens wat te eten of boodschappen te doen."

"Wir haben sehr schöne Tage in Witzenhausen in der Ferienwohnung Antonia gehabt. Es war alles da was man braucht,es fehlte an nichts. Das einchecken über den Schlüsselkasten hat auch super geklappt. Unsere Fahrräder konnten wir sicher unterstellen. Alles top!!! "

"A nice house with enough separate rooms for 20 guests. We could find the key easily and received a warm welcome with a message and bottle of wine. Everything we needed in the kitchen was there. There is parking space for 3 cars, but please note that in that case one of the cars partially dismisses the grass play space. There are 2 bathrooms and 3 separate toilets. Unfortunately we tought we could have a bbq in the garden or sit on the terrace in the evenings based on the advertisment, but once...

"Es ist ein wunderschönes Haus mit allem, was man braucht. Ein gemütlicher Freisitz lädt zum Grillabend ein, man ist schnell in der Natur und kann die Geschichte der deutschen Teilung sehr eindrücklich nachempfinden. Das Grenzlandmuseum ist zu Fuß gut erreichbar und sehr empfehlenswert. Insgesamt sehr empfehlenswert!"
