About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Ebony Cottage is an Escape from the Outside World.

Head for the hills…and the dancing daffodils. In the expansive grounds of a 16th-century timber-framed house, is the perfect retreat à deux. Way up a simple track, you already feel yourself unwinding as you approach your traditional timber framed hideaway awaiting you. The cottage sits in unspoilt rolling countryside and was built entirely out of locally sourced stone, oak and handcrafted leaded light windows. Inside you will be met by a cottage built by a Master Craftsmen with fine details, charm and character. Settle on the weighty leather sofa next to the wood-burner stacked high with logs from the nearby woods. The kitchen is well equipped, open plan and nestled around the Aga, the floor is made out of natural stone with underfloor heating. As you climb up the oak staircase you will be met by an open plan bedroom, dressing room overlooking the sitting room below from the galleried landing. It would be a treat of an evening to follow the babbling brook through the ancient orchid-dotted woodland.
Rest awhile at the owner's perfect little bothy, then retire to your own secluded little garden with its picture-postcard views across open pastures to the Teme and Kyre valleys. Venture further to ‘foodie’ Ludlow full of fabulous various restaurants, book-lined Hay-on-Wye, Ironbridge industrial heritage, the magnificent Malvern Hills is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon walking. Ludlow Castle, Croft Castle, Eastnor Castle and many more National Trust properties are within easy distance. Take to the slow life on the steam railway, stride out on the Mortimer Trail, meander through forgotten Herefordshire villages.
Leading directly from the cottage is an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways where badgers, woodpeckers, buzzards and owls may be seen. Buzzards soar overhead, rabbits scamper in the fields that surround you. Tenbury wells, an attractive spa and market town in the Teme Valley is 4 miles away and the fine Georgian town of Ludlow is only a 15 minute drive.

Lovely views...
Location of the property was beautiful and our dogs loved it but there were a few things that let it down. The photos on the website dont reflect what it actually looks like on the outside. It shows a very open green space however the grass area in front of the property and to the side has a hedge all the way round. Wasn't a bad thing as it gave us an enclosed space for the dogs but think it should be shown on the images for clarity. Inside the property there are some upgrades needed: one of the sofas has sunken on one side so not very comfortable, the toilet seat was loose & moved when you sat on it, the shower head needs replacing as no matter what setting you put it on the water went wherever it wanted to go, and the Aga is not practical at all. It took 3 hours to warm it up enough to put a pizza in and even then it took 45 minutes to cook. It actually took longer to cool down than it did to warm up and in 22°c heat it made the inside of the property like a sauna! The dishwasher was also a bit of a hazard as it would tip forward whenever you loaded it on the top. The host was polite but i found it a little off putting that we were interrupted within 10 minutes of arrival to ensure we handed over cash for the 2nd dog (the original booking didnt give an option to put more than 1). She also decided to mow the lawn area in front of the property early one evening which made us feel a little uncomfortable and wasnt really necessary as could have been done after we'd left.

Wow! Beautiful 'gingerbread house' in idyllic setting: tranquil and scenic. Wonderful place for a special occasion. Nice to look out of the window and see sheep happily grazing in the field behind the cottage. Good to be able to walk directly from the cottage into the fields. Wonderful views of the countryside all around.

Idyllic stillness, comfort and countryside views - what a wonderful place to stay
This is a real hidden little gem away from everything. Feel lucky to have found it. Love the natural design of the cottage, the 360-degree views, the spaciousness, the rolling hills, the beautiful gardens and spots to relax, the peace, the Aga, the animals all around, the location... You can feel Eleanor has put love into it all. You take a big sigh and you feel your heartrate slow in this place... Thank you for such a lovely stay! Wish we would've stayed longer.

Perfect Remote Get Away
This home has a fairy tale like quality. We have never stayed anywhere quite like it. We were amazed at the design and craftsmanship of this place and the surroundings were most peaceful. Although we did not meet the owner she was most responsive to us and went above our expectations. We would love to return here!

A little piece of Heaven
Ebony Cottage… Wow. A stunning well equipped timber cottage, surrounded by farmland, the sights and sounds of nature and ‘my secret garden’. A real haven for getting away from the hustle and bustle of life, a real brain break and de stressor. Located about 4 miles outside of Tenbury Wells up a single track lane. As soon as you approach the cottage, you can’t help but feel excited and relaxed. I would highly recommend Ebony Cottage. You will want for nothing and appreciate all that you have.

A stunning property in an equally stunning location. We were overwhelmed with the beauty of it all, stunning views from every window - host Eleanor was very inviting, she’s a lovely talented lady. A very happy time had by us and our adored black Labrador with the same name as the cottage - Ebony. The cottage was an exceptionally happy find!!

A Magical Few Days in a Truly Beautiful Place
We chose Ebony Cottage because it was up a track, far from a busy road. We really had no idea what to expect apart from that. But what we discovered completely took our breath away. This charming cottage, hand crafted in solid oak, with the highest standard of fittings throughout, is set in vast, exquisite, flower filled, peaceful gardens, with woodland behind, seven acres in all. It is surrounded by panoramic, unspoilt, rolling countryside with a honeycomb of glorious walks in every direction straight from the door. The cosy, welcoming cottage has been built to the highest specification and is equipped with everything you could possibly need. A delightful touch are the two sets of French windows at the front, making it feel so light and airy. It's exceptionally comfortable. There is ample space to sit outside both front and back, thus enjoying the morning and evening sunshine, surrounded on all sides by breathtaking views. What a delightful touch to have a swing seat, as well as the tables and chairs. A handful of pretty little ducklings, guinea fowl and hens meandered through the grounds from time to time, adding to the charm of this earthly paradise. Our hostess, who lives in the grounds, was charming, attentive to all our needs, but never intrusive. What a delightful surprise to find home made mouth-watering butterfly buns awaiting our arrival. She is also a brilliant, creative gardener. The historic little market town of Tenbury Wells is just three and a half miles away, with a wealth of individual, well stocked shops, and a Tesco tucked in a corner for all essentials. Residents are particularly friendly and welcoming. There are several coffee shops, all dog friendly! Our favourite overlooked the river, where we sat outside and watched a kingfisher ducking and diving in the water. There is a wealth of interesting places to visit nearby - castles, gardens, towns of historical interest (Ludlow is unmissable). We have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years, most of them nice, but this one is in a class of its own. We can hardly wait to go back!

Wonderful escape
Loved our stay here. The cottage is beautiful, so remote and peaceful. It’s the perfect place to relax and unwind. Loved that we didn’t need to move the car and could go for plenty of lovely walks from the cottage or just sit and relax. It’s the perfect escape set in beautiful gardens. Thanks to Eleanor for letting us share your creation. We will be back.
