My family stayed at Alta Peak Vista for 11 nights in the summer of 2011. I would describe our experience as mixed.
The pros, in my opinion:
The location via-a-vis Sequoia is unmatched.
The house is spacious, with an open layout. The master suite is particularly roomy.
The kitchen is well stock with equipment.
The views from the house are grand.
The house has, as described, been renovated recently, so that it's decor and amenities are modern and comfortable. (It does show a little "wear and tear" (e.g., closet door off of its hinges and "dings" in the baseboards, but no more than one would expect from a rental property.)
The neighbors (that is, the family that shares the driveway and has a house on the adjacent lot) are very friendly (and have a very friendly dog).
The cons, in my opinion:
The master suite is "loft style" (that is, it's not completely closed off from the downstairs), making it less private and less quiet than I would have preferred.
The deck isn't as large as I would have expected. (The table seats four to six and I would guess the deck could accommodate one more table of that size and not much more.) Also, it could use some TLC (e.g., some of the boards need to be re-nailed).
Despite the fact that it's advertised as pet free, there was visible dog hair on the carpet in the kitchen and in the den (perhaps from the friendly neighbor dog)?
Most troubling, there was a massive ant infestation. We could not leave food unattended for more than 10 minutes before ants would be swarming; ants were in the cabinets and, in some cases, our food; ants were in the dishwasher.
Jerry was apologetic with respect to the issues we had with the home and attempted to remedy them. Specifically, he sent a cleaning lady to vacuum the rugs to deal with the dog hair (albeit several days after I complained), an exterminator to deal with the ants (sadly, unsuccessfully), a repairman to fix the broken toilet (finally fixed after several visits) and a repairman to fix the upstairs A/C unit (fixed, but after a night hot enough that the residents of the master suite had to sleep on the sofa). He was, however, unwilling to refund any of our rent for our inconvenience (again, a toilet that was broken for several days, A/C that didn't work for a day, dog hair in an allegedly pet free home (that persisted despite the additional cleaning and aggravated my allergies) and, most disturbing to me, an ant infestation that lasted the entire 11 days of my stay.
