"The check-in staff was not particularly helpful upon arrival. I was not provided with directions to my room, information regarding the complimentary pastries and coffee, or any notice that two weddings were taking place on the property during my stay, which resulted in a higher level of noise than expected. In retrospect, this may have contributed to the lower room rate. The restaurant was satisfactory, and I especially appreciated that gluten-free bread was available. The bed in the main house was very comfortable and contributed positively to the overall stay. One suggestion for improvement would be to install less transparent bathroom curtains, as visibility through them can compromise privacy."

"The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was self-serve and offered many choices. However, there were several problems. There was a broken window pane.. The master light switch did not work. The lighting that did work was not adequate. The bathmat was shredding. The toilet roll holder was broken. There was dirt on the floor. The fitted sheet on the bed was not properly put on so it was uncomfortable. The air conditioning and fridge were noisy. The walls were thin. You could hear footsteps from floor above and full conversations of people in other rooms. The staff was not defensive when all of this was reported and gave me a partial refund. The pictures on the website are deceiving. This is really more of a poor motel."

"The staff was great, but the food at Shade is not good; it's too expensive and not what one would expect. The clam chowder had almost no clams and no potatoes either. But the rooms are very good -- very spacious and comfortable. There is no microwave, which is a shame, but there is a small fridge. There is a nice exercise room, and there is a hot tub in use, but the pool has no heat. There are pluses and minuses here."

"The hotel was disgusting, FIRST room we took 5 steps in and stuck to the floor. Very visible sticky stain. Second room was cleaner. A lot of damaged walls, stains and smells. They don't have full size towels (we asked!). Hand towel is as big as it gets. Breakfast is pathetic. One mr. Coffee size pot of coffee for everyone in the hotel, granola bars, applesauce, questionable bread and waffle batter. Juice was out of order. Check in staff member was lovely and apologetic for the gross room. Check out staff was annoyed, I wouldn't just leave the key on the counter (I wanted to make sure it got put away, so I wasn't charged). Beds were very uncomfortable and the pillows were the size of a throw pillow we got 3 for a queen size bed."
