We were just in Timaru for a one night stop driving from Queenstown to Christchurch. We walked into the town shopping area about 6pm hoping to get a drink and meal, but everything was closed. We went back to our hotel to eat.
Good place to stock up on groceries
Timaru is a blot on the landscape with two very good Asian restaurants and at least one very pleasant breakfast cafe. Stop for these, don't stay.
