From the minute we arrived we were made to feel very, very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble for any one of the staff.
Our room, number 1, a mini suite, was spacious and very well appoìnted: ample tea and coffee, a sumptuous bathroom with plenty of toiletries a very comfortable bed with fabulous pillows. That is often my biggest criticism- no attention is paid to pillows!
We ate both nights in the restaurant and weren't disappointed. The menu isn't ext ensive but caters for all tastes, with a choice of a la carte or table d'hote.
The young restaurant / bar team was no less than excellent; solicitous without being intrusive.
We went on business but it turned into a very relaxing and pleasant stay, thanks to all the staff. We shall definitely make a return visit.
A very enjoyable stay. The room was really comfortable, excellent meals and attentive staff.
Some alterations to the hotel were in progress at the time but didn't detract from our enjoyment in any way. Would definately stay again if in the area.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, but I was very disappointed with the room which was overpriced and small with a distinct lack of storage space. The wardrobe was half full of iron, ironing board, spare pillows etc. There was no drawer space for other clothes. The wardrobe doors hit the bed when opened. I was on my own, thank goodness, not enough room for two people and luggage, and where does one put one’s suitcase? No safe but a gun locker built into the wall, too small for my ipad. The bathroom was good, no complaints about that. No full length mirror in the room. Half a dozen cushions on the bed and nowhere to put them when I went to sleep, they occupied all of the remaining floor space. I had a very light continental breakfast, not much choice of fresh fruit. The conservatory and gardens are nice.
We needed a dog friendly hotel for one night on our way to Cornwall and this hotel provided that perfectly. Everything about the hotel and the grounds was lovely, but I had one complaint. We ate in the bar, and I ordered the roast lamb. Although the lamb itself was beautiful, there was far too much meat and not enough other vegetables for me. 3 great chunks of lamb was excessive, and the only other vegetable were some inedible potatos. Sadly they tasted horrible, doused in a thick sauce.
great room. Very good menu and great service to it
This hotel is a very pleasant surprise. We were upgraded without asking, which got things off to a great start. It then got better and better with a lovely dining experience where everything was top notch. Prices very reasonable for the quality. This would match many restaurants in France and we consider them the apex of restaurantering. We left on Sunday morning feeling thoroughly satisfied so well done, Hartnoll!
This hotel is very quaint. The staff were very helpful. There had been a mix up with our booking so they immediately offered us free drinks in the bar whilst they sorted it out. They then upgraded us to their mini suite which was lovely. Breakfast was good.
We stayed here for one night. Our room (no 2) was fine, our window opened onto a flat roof, but we did have a bit of a view! The bed and pillows were like a huge marshmellow, too soft for us, but not a problem for one night. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and both were excellent. . We had booked a superior room, but on check out were only charged for a standard room, We would definately recommend this hotel and would stay here again.
