The Black Forest house(German: Schwarzwaldhaus) is a byre-dwelling that is found mainly in the central and southern parts of the Black Forest in southwestern Germany. It is characterised externally by a long hipped or half-hipped roof that descends to the height of the ground floor. This type of dwelling is suited to the conditions of the Black Forest: hillside locations, broad tracks, high levels of snowfall and heavy wind loading. Individual farms, such as the Hierahofnear Kappel, which are still worked today, are over 400 years old. The Black Forest house is described by Dickinson as very characteristic of the Swabian farmstead type.

"Professionell, super Ausstattung, super Außenanlage, super Service. Wir haben uns rund um wohl gefühlt. Die Anlage muss man fast nicht verlassen, weil es dort so viel im Garten zu tun gibt. (Grill, Backhaus, Spielplatz, Sportplatz etc) Für Kinder eine perfekte Unterkunft! wir haben es sehr genossen"

Wel wat gedateerd en echt Duits maar dat heeft juist ook weer zijn charme. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar! Mooie omgeving en rustig dorp met schitterende vergezichten en een serene sfeer. Genoten!"

"Sehr schön eingerichtet und trotzdem noch ein Stück Geschichte vom alten Stellwerk geblieben. Es war alles vorhanden. Es hat uns als Familie sehr gut gefallen. "

The house is a bit aged (1970s maybe) and renovations are sometimes done without professional help, but everything works and is in good shape. "Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt in dem Ferienhaus, wir waren für 14 Tage dort untergebracht und es war nie langweilig, im Gegenteil die Umgebung hat tolle Aussichten und Sehenswürdigkeiten und es ist nachts sehr ruhig, da stört nix beim schlafen.Frau Suckert ist wirklich überaus nett und zuvorkommend und hat alles was man braucht im Ferienhaus, vor allem mit Hund ist das ein echter Geheimtipp. Wir waren dort in Oberbränd sehr zufrieden."

Communications with the family were easy and the location was good for learning about the wines of France ( around Colmar) or Germany ( Kaiserstuhl). "This is quite a modern unit, with new rooms and furnishings. The staff were most helpful. The parking was only €10 per day, which is reasonable. We did not take advantage of the breakfast (extra charge), but it looked good. There is an elevator. There was not a good night light in our room. One down-side might be the location, a ways out of town, but it was only a 10-15 minute drive into the city. The property is right next to a main public transit hub (bus and streetcar). Good air conditioning and free WiFi."
