First time in tokyo, the location of this hotel is fantastic. Close to a combini plus right next to a train station. The staff were super helpful when needed and always greeted you at the door. I would book again in the future !!
Hotel is close to the train station, walking distance to a bunch of restaurants. Was able to walk to the toho theatre with the godzilla head no problem. Would stay here again
I appreciate the cleanliness, minimal and contemporary design of the bathroom which i deem is very important among anything else wherever i stay. The bedding is also very comfy. No fuss checking in and out. Thank you very much, i had a comforting and relaxing stay
A cute little hotel close to Shin-Okubo station, a bit hidden off of the main street. The staff was lovely and the room was small but nice. Perfect for a solo traveler.
I came there a bit early but it was no problem leaving my luggage so I could do something else, then when I checked in later they had already carried it up to the room for me.
Visited as a solo tourist. Loved how convenient it is to Shin-Okubō Station. It is somewhat a walkable distance to Kabukichō. Hotel provided a mini-map of conveniences available in the precinct.
The property was very pretty, and had kind staff! Perfectly located if you want to spend the night out in Shinjuku, but don’t want to wait until 5am for the trains to open! Our room was right below a smoking room so we smelt it a little but, but that’s expected in Tokyo.
All in all very worth it and a great place to stay.
Very small room for two people, but would've been great for 1 person. Not much room to open suitcases, so don't bring too much. The staff was very friendly and spoke enough English, and signage is good. Location is amazing, literally right next to the shrine.
Matsunoi is the middle of Shin-Okubo section of Shinjuku - it's a crowded, busy neighborhood. The hotel is tucked on a side street, a short walk from the Yamanote line station, but I was never bothered by any noise from the neighborhood. The room is small (expected), but clean and contemporary. An easy stay.
Restaurant downstairs is great too!
Nice place for solo trip, just 1 things is that there is no escalator. However, the staff was very nice to help me carry the luggage upstairs. Quit near to the JR Station.

Blankets of clouds
Location was perfect and near a lot of Korean food and shopping places.
I probably had one of the best sleeps since I have been in Japan on the futon mattress, and the blanket and pillow were like clouds.
It will deffinately be too loud for sensitive sleepers due to the train nearby and the people out and about.
There are only stairs so I would keep that in mind when booking.
The staff were amaizing, the elder gentlemen who checked me in helped me carry my bag up the stairs and showed me to my room.
Bonus points for the soothing ambient music that played in the halls.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
A small inn located across the JR Shin-Ōkubo Station. Excellent if you have to catch a train at Shinjuku Station, which is one stop away. Okudo is quite international, and you can find plenty of Korean and Vietnamese business nearby.
All staffs I met have been friendly and helpful, and the room was clean.
However, I have taken one star off as the front door isn't locked, meaning anyone could walk straight into the corridor if the reception isn't staffed. The air/sound insulation isn't great either, some guest chain-smoking outside hotboxed the whole building, triggered my nose allergy for the rest of the trip, and you could definitely use their free earplugs at night to block off train noise.
Recommended for anyone who is ok with the issues noted.
Everything is really close by and all sites are available from the train station. I would stay here again! The hotel is super efficent, yuu have eveything you need!
Excellent hotel to stay in shinjuku Tokyo, wonderful and helpful team very clean and good services, close to everything, i had a very good experience staying in this hotel.
Room is clean and staff are nice, Main entrance is at the back of the ally, area is walkable, many Korean restaurant around; close to the JY train station Shin-Okubo about 3 min walk
Convenient for Yamanote line. But also possible to walk to shinjuku areas. Room was very clean and perfect for my purposes. No elevator but staff helped with my bags.

The hotel is near the station Shin-okubo in the yamanote line, so very convenient if you have a JR pass.
The area is known as the Korean area, so plenty of Korean restaurants and shops also for K-pop, trendy for young people. Nothing to do during the night. The room is very small but well organised, with everything you need.
If you have 2 big baggages it will be impossible to have it both open in the room, ans there is no space to put your clothes on.
If it is your first time in Tokyo, better to plan everything by yourself because the staff will not help you with any suggestions or indications, you will probably never see them after your check-in.
I spent a week and a half at this fine little hotel. Little enough that It was actually a bit hard to find. No matter which airport you come from, you want to take a connecting line (it's a monrail from Haneda) to the JR Yamanote line. Take that to Shin-okubo station, where there's only one exit. It lets you out onto Okubo-dori St. Turning right down this street you will immediately pass under the elevated railroad tracks (nice murals!) and find yourself at an intersection. Cross the intersection and go straight. You will quickly come to a street/alley on your right. This is what you want. Just past several Korean restaurants (you're in Koreatown) and a very small parking lot you will find Hotel Matsunoi on your right. The gentleman who checked me in spoke excellent English and provided me with a guide book full of the best maps to Tokyo I would find anywhere during my stay. The room was not spacious, but it was big enough for me. All the fixtures were new, and everything was clean. Other staff members were courteous and helpful as well, though their English was limited. The hotel is north of Shinjuku, so revellers could sometimes be heard until almost midnight. The trains usually woke me up in the morning, but there's too much to see in Tokyo to sleep the day away. Being two short blocks from the JR Yamanote line was such a boon to my explorations! And though I'm more into J-rock than K-pop, I discovered that I rather like Korean food. Thanks Hotel Matsunoi!
