Sometimes being a little remote is a nice way to travel. Recently, near Popoyo in Nicaragua we decided to stay a few kilometres away from the beach and nearest town, in order to get a more real experience outside the tourists.

Without a bike of our own, everything required long walks down these beautiful roads near the pacific coast. Whether it be for drinking water or a swim on the beautiful ocean, occasionally the extra effort makes everything so much more beautiful in the end.

"When we arrived the toilet and both sinks were leaking, I contacted the manager and everything was sorted out but with a leak so we only used one sink. The floor in the ad was ceramic but in reality it was cement, there was a TV on the poster but not in reality. He had a camping-style shower installed for us for hot water, it worked for 2 weeks. "A very pleasant stay in a very clean, modern, quiet and welcoming apartment, well located if you want to be close to downtown San Juan. A few details though:- repair the shower head which leaks on the side, causing excess water consumption ;- there's no door between the bedroom and the kitchen, yet the latter has a window which is completely open to the outside (and which we can't close); so when we turn on the air-conditioning in the bedroom, it has trouble working efficiently, not to mention...

"Roomy brezze lots of light and windows that open. Fans i. Evey room, small but good kitchen , large outdoor and deck and hamic space. Bed are fair and place is clean There are a lot of steps from the street and drive way is very steep making parking a chalange. "

We felt safe at the location (it is gated with security guards), good parking facilities, and there were a number of fun surprises! We liked the macaws and the peacocks about. "Pros: beautiful property in the middle of the jungle, private beach, and delicious food at the restaurant. They were very kind to upgrade our room close to the beach. It was a beautiful 2-story villa with a kitchen, private pool, a balcony, and AC in the bedroom. Cons: lack of honesty and services Leading up to the trip, we received a few emails telling us about all the activities and services available in the resort. They offered complementary hiking and snorkeling, and we could pay for yoga classes, spa treatments, romantic packages, and activities such as surfing, hikes on Mombacho and Omepete island, etc. None of that was available once we got there. We asked the reception to book activities and they said they would call amd organize them. They never did. After a few days, we decided to book them ourselves through tour websites. We even asked them to call a nearby golfing course and they said they would. After 3 days, they said the golf course hadn't answered yet. My partner emailed the golf course and we got a response within 5 minutes. The staff at the reception were very kind, but not helpful and the lack of honestly from the management really disappointed us. The restaurant staff were always great and the service was excellent. The reception even gave us the wrong opening hours for the restaurant so we showed up late one evening. The staff were still there and were so extremely kind to prepare us a meal even after closing."

"The property was close to beach and walkable. We enjoyed the pool and breakfast was an option which we had a few times. Staff was very helpful arranging taxi and sharing walks and things to explore. Enjoyed that it was non smoking. Enjoyed having coffee and water available as well. I would recommend this place and have no problem coming back."
