"We had a fantastic stay at this lovely home in Val de Loire. The house stayed cool despite the July heat, and the fenced garden was perfect for our two dogs. Janet has thought of everything, making it a peaceful and comfortable retreat. We can't wait to return!"

"Janet and Chris were very welcoming and the property was clean, nice decor and well furnished, an ideal size for a couple or even with a child. It was a great base to explore a part of France that we were unfamiliar with and our dog was well catered for with nice walks in the area and also from the cottage."

"This is truely a splendid location to enjoy the Brenne's amazing rich nature: red deer, wild boar, red fox, a great number of bird species. They can all be seen around the house and in the etang and forest in the 'backgarden' of the beautiful house."

"Le logement est joliment aménagé, en particulier pour la partie du bas. Nous avons passé 2 nuits dans ce logement. Déçu par la propreté, la poussière en général surtout au niveau des chambres n'était pas faite. Beaucoup de moutons de poussière sous les lits. La propreté des toilettes laissait à désirer aussi, J'ai dû nettoyer l'abattant qui était souillé d'urine. Les draps ne sentaient pas vraiment le propre. Le four était sale et sentait mauvais. Het huisje zelf is meer dan comfortabel, superschoon en netjes en voorzien van alle gemakken. De goedgevulde groentetuin maakte het helemaal af. De eigenaren zijn hele hartelijke en vriendelijke mensen, die ons een warm welkom hebben gegeven en verwend hebben met allerlei lekkernijen. "This really is a Narnia house- the entrance is somewhat deceptive because once you get inside it is quite magical. Not only has the owner, Nancy, gathered together a lot of fascinating French antiques, but it is also a very comfortable house with every modern appliance you can think of. We didn’t use the garden much as we had a lot of rain but it is pretty, enclosed and safe for our dog. The village is within easy walking distance and has a baker! "We had a wonderful holiday in this spacious gite. The pool was a big hit with the children and a perfect escape from the heat ! The location is set in acres of stunning scenery, yet you aren’t far from bakeries, butchers and supermarkets etc.. "Nous avons été accueilli par Valérie, qui nous à présenté son gîte ainsi que les alentours.Le gite était parfait, bien agencé, bien pourvu et nous avons pu profiter de la salle attenante pour un anniversaire.Un extérieur vaste et bien entretenu, et la surprise des animaux pour le enfants (une biche !)Valérie s'est montré disponible tout le long du séjour et même avant et nous avons passé un week-end parfait en famille !Je recommande ce lieu pour toute les familles qui souhaitent un gite...

Walnut Lodge, 1 bedroom traditional Gite in rural location

"We stayed at Walnut Lodge from 22nd to 29th July 2025 while attending a wedding at a nearby château just 5 minutes away—and we couldn’t have chosen a better place. The location was absolutely ideal, tucked away in a peaceful setting yet just 10 minutes from La Roche-Posay, home to an incredible spa, casino, and plenty of local shops and restaurants serving fantastic food.There’s also a lovely market held twice a week that’s well worth a visit.Our hosts, Lisa and Bryan, were exceptional from start to finish. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and their beautiful home and gîtes—set against a stunning backdrop—were truly a sight for sore eyes. The pool was perfect (when the rain held off!), and what really made our stay extra special was their offer to transport us to and from the wedding, which was a massive help and so appreciated.And of course, we can’t forget Frankie, their friendly French Bulldog, who greeted us with a wag and a warm welcome every time we returned.If you’re looking for a peaceful, unique, and welcoming experience in the French countryside, we’d recommend Lisa and Bryan’s Walnut Lodge again and again.
