A killing field In 1403 this was the site of the battle between Henry IV & Harry Percy aka Hotspur. The battle is mentioned by Wm Shakespeare in his play Henry IV part 1 (or it could be part 2). Hotspur's forces were located on the ridge in the centre & left of the picture. Hotspur was killed in the battle & his corpse later quartered in the centre of Shrewsbury - a monument now marks that site.

It is a wonderful historic building, but very run down . Some parts, eg the listed ballroom is closed needing roof repairs. Threadbare carpets, although bedding and towels changed each day there was poor bathroom supplies. I believe it is for sale. So fingers crossed because it’s in a good position ...

The Stable was a fantastic stay, really clean and the hosts were really welcoming. The Stables is secluded but well worth the drive to it. It was so quiet and peaceful and the log fire a really welcome bonus that made for a very cosy stay.
