    San Barnaba and Dorsoduro

San Barnaba is located in the heart of the Dorsoduro district, along the route leading to St. Mark’s Square via the Accademia Bridge. Situated halfway between Piazzale Roma and the Accademia Bridge, it is one of the oldest and liveliest areas of Venice.
Next to the 18th-century neoclassical church of San Barnaba stands the famous Ponte dei Pugni (“Bridge of Fists”), which was once used to settle disputes between the city’s rival factions through fistfights. The winning team was the one that managed to conquer the bridge, while the defeated team ended up in the water. In 1585, the so-called War of the Fists took place here, fought between two important city factions: the Nicolotti of San Nicolò dei Mendicoli and the Castellani of San Pietro di Castello.
Dorsoduro was already at the heart of ancient Venice. This part of the city was among the first to be developed, thanks to the presence of a small island with firmer ground, particularly suitable for building homes and craftsmen’s workshops.
The calle Sotoportego del Tagiapiera, where the “Ea casa de mì” apartment is located today, was once the access route to a workshop where Istrian stone was worked. The small square in front of the apartment was used to display the finished stonework, while a landing area for boats used to transport the materials was located alongside it. The apartment itself was once part of this historic workshop.
Today, Dorsoduro and the area surrounding Campo San Barnaba are among the liveliest parts of the city, rich in services, restaurants, bars and important historical landmarks.

There are no words capable of fully describing Venice and its unique places: only by living in the heart of the city can you preserve a truly unique and unforgettable memory of it.
The slow pace of life, the calli, the small squares and the everyday life unfolding all around you make a stay at “Ea casa de mì” an authentically Venetian experience and the perfect starting point for an unforgettable holiday.
