"Clearly the Smith & Western is a themed hotel and restaurant and they really commit, with saddle stools, staff in cowboy hats, caribou light fixtures and antler tissue boxes.
Each room is named after and Indian tribe, ours, Arapaho was spacious and clean. With a kettle, coffee machine and mini bar, the amenities were good. The TV had apps for all the catch-up channels plus Prime, Apple, Disney etc.
The carpet was a little tired and stained on the stairs but otherwise it was well maintained.
The booking said it included continental breakfast but in fact it was a choice of tasty cooked options along with endless juice, tea and coffee. If you’re looking for a lighter or healthier option, this isn’t for you as there’s no pastries, cereal or fruit.
The car park was half empty when we arrived around 2:20 and has direct access to Sainsbury’s next door. There is a night entrance if you’re coming back late or don’t want to go through the restaurant.
The pantiles is no more than 10min walk and the Forum is just 5min.
Not a cheap option but very pleasant and a great location for our weekend plans."
