"Very friendly staff in popular and welcoming village local. We only stayed one night and didn't eat here though the menu looked great. Obviously popular with locals and tourists alike for a small village it was busy on the Saturday night we stayed. Room was clean and comfortable though dated. The bed was a bit older than some but perfectly pleasant. The surrounding area is stunning with plenty to do within a short drive and lots of walking on your doorstep. Overall a most enjoyable stay. "We had a friendly welcome, but were surprised to be asked to pay cash- in- advance on arrival, as there was no facility to pay by card as expected. Fortunately it was not a problem as a cash machine was close by. The hotel has no chef at the moment, but there were plenty of eateries in town. The 'continental breakfast' was delicious. We were able to leave the car parked safely while we took the train for a day out in Newcastle."
