For a day of outdoor exploration, head to Ambleside (7 miles), a popular meeting point for walkers and cyclists to set off and explore deeper into the national park.
Step through the front door and into the inviting open-plan lounge, where exposed stone walls and a crackling wood burner create a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
