Beautiful property, friendly staff, easy to find, close to downtown Winston, but feels far. Our only thing is... the room amenities were lacking. No fridge. No way to make acup of tea. Small bathroom.
A stay at Graylyn is amazing in every way. The building and grounds are gorgeous, the service impeccable, and the atmosphere makes you feel as if you are guests at an estate in a previous time.
Best experience at a hotel ever!
We had a great time at the Estate. Everybody were friendly and helpful. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was excellent. No coffee machine in the room, but you can get coffee or tee or ice-cream free in any building, just ask for it.
The hotel was fine, but the walls are very thin and we had a party next door. When I called to change rooms they were not accommodating. It is a beautiful old hotel, but I was up all night long with the people next door.
Beautifully restored and well-kept private home that now belongs to WFU. Clearly that local pop of alumni and multi-generational families are keeping the “resort property” solvent in these tough economic times
The lovely Graylyn never disappoints! It is a true treat to stay there. The service is impeccable, staff is so gracious and thoughtful. The meals are great and we love the breakfast offerings!

Liked: Property conditions & facilities
Not bad, but not great either
Positives:
They let us check in early.
Free ice cream and coffee.
Grounds and hotel common areas in excellent shape.
Short walk to Reynolda Village and Wake Forest U.
Negatives:
Bedding had a half-dollar size yellow stain.
Heat in room did not work (called down to front office, they said they’d send somebody up but nobody ever came).
It wasn’t clear how to use some of the amenities (bikes and lawn games).
Bathroom needs some repairs.
The alarm clock went off at 6am.
The grounds are gorgeous. Unfortunately we just needed a place to stay near Wake so we couldn’t really take advantage of them. The room was tired especially for the price. The tub shower filled up past your ankles when you took a shower. Pet peeve.
The Mews King Suite is not as pictured AT ALL. There is not a living room. Neither hotels.com nor Graylyn would provide a refund after we drove 4 hours for our babymoon to be met with a lackluster standard hotel room with a King bed.
Our stay was really, really nice. It was the type of stay that slowed the world down, brought you back in time and allowed your mind to rest for a while. Staying at this residence was a museum in itself with a history all should read and know you are in the presence of a rich and somewhat 'royal' past. You are encouraged and not restricted at all to explore and travel through every common area. You can even get a little lost. The 3 spiral staircases seem like they are right out of a fairytale. This indeed may be an annual junket to refresh! Thank you to Sir Roger for being so friendly!
