The Space: Nestled in Mazama’s Liberty Woodlands, this one-bedroom, one-bathroom cabin is perched on a hillside and provides a peaceful escape with easy access to trails for year-round outdoor activities. Inside, the great room features vaulted wood ceilings and large windows that let in natural light and showcase the surrounding forest. A freestanding propane stove adds warmth, creating a cozy atmosphere. The well-equipped kitchen offers modern appliances and ample counter space, with a dining area for meals with a view. The covered deck extends the living space outdoors, perfect for enjoying the fresh air and serene surroundings.
Additional amenities include radiant heating for year-round comfort, an in-unit washer and dryer, and a peaceful, secluded lot with direct trail access. Located just a short drive from both Winthrop and Mazama, this cabin is the perfect base for exploring the area.
The Neighborhood: MAZAMA The Liberty Woodlands community is located 3.5 miles) from the Mazama Store and the Methow Trails trailhead (for access to hiking, mountain biking, cross-country ski and snow-shoe trails). In addition to the store with its renowned bakery and groceries, Mazama is home to the Goat’s Beard outdoor store (with mountain bike and fat bike rentals), the Mazama Ski School for cross country ski lessons and rentals, and the popular Mazama Public House for local brews, food and music.
In 2025 a new groomed nordic ski trail connecting Liberty Woodlands to Timberline Meadows and the John's Way Trail opened, providing a connection to Mazama and the Upper Valley trail system. This new trail passes a few yards from the cabin making this a ski-in ski-out property. The lower valley trails can be accessed from the trailhead at Brown's Farm 2 miles down the road (a future trail is also planned to connect direct from Liberty Woodlands).
NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK Woodland Retreat is also conveniently situated for easy access to the North Cascades and the trailheads to many of the Park's world-class hiking trails. It’s under a 25-minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 30 minutes to Washington Pass and 35 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead.
WINTHROP Woodland Retreat is also just 10 miles down the road from the old west town of Winthrop, with it’s popular shopping and art galleries, the Shafer Museum (lots of local history), bakeries and dining establishments. The Winthrop Rink boasts one of North America’s only NHL-sized outdoor rinks, hosting ice-related activities for the entire family in winter, and active sport and pickleball courts in the summer months. Winthrop’s annual calendar of events includes the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial and Labor Day Rodeos, and Christmas At The End Of The Road (check the town’s website for details).
Getting Around: Getting Here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over State Route 20 and Washington Pass, also known as the scenic “American Alps” (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or via highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combined, these routes make up the scenic Cascade Loop. The nearest major airports are Spokane International Airport at 180 miles (year round) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (190 miles in summer / 260 miles in winter). Regional flights are also available at Pangborn Memorial Airport in Wenatchee, located 102 miles away.
Getting Around: Nearest winter trail is the Methow Community Trail. The Mazama Store is 3.5 miles / 6 minute drive Winthrop is 10 miles / 15 minutes drive. Okanogan County Transit Authority’s Trango service provides Mon – Sat transportation to/from Twisp to Mazama from roughly 7AM to 7PM.
Other Things to Note: EXTRA GUESTS AND MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY Currently the cabin is set up with one bedroom for 2 guests. An additional bedroom will be made available once completed. 2 guests are included in the nightly rental rate.
PETS Up to 2 dogs are allowed for a fee of $50 per pet, per stay.
WIFI: The cabin has LIMITED WIFI via an AT&T wifi hotspot. Connection may sometimes be intermittent. In addition there is a data limit that will be rapidly exceeded if you stream 4k video.
CELL PHONE SERVICE AT&T has service / there is no cell service on Verizon.

The Inn Pool - guests of our cabin may use The Inn at Mazama outdoor pool (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and tennis/pickleball court located at 15 Country Road in Mazama. The cost to use the pool is $10/guest/day and you should check in at the front desk before heading to the pool. The Inn also has a co-working space and private offices available to rent by the day in case you need space to work during your stay.
