The town of Weißenburg/Wissembourg, surrounded by the arms of the Lauter, has retained its medieval layout and charm, which is particularly impressive when walking through the alleyways of the old town or over the ramparts. It has many beautiful houses and monuments, in particular the Abbey Church of St Peter and Paul (13th century), the largest in the area after Strasbourg Cathedral, as well as the Romanesque St Ulrich's Church in the neighbouring village. Ulrichs church in neighbouring Altenstadt (11th century), the old salt house (1448), the Holzapfel house (1475), an old patrician house (1491) and the Vogelsberger house (1540) on Quai Anselmann, the old commandery of the Teutonic Knights (1606), the old hospital (1700), the town hall (1752), and much more. In addition to the old town, the Bruch quarter is particularly worth seeing.
There are many particularly pretty Alsatian villages in the surrounding area, such as Seebach, Hunspach and Hoffen, as well as the wine-growing villages of Steinseltz, Cleeburg and Rott (with wine tasting in the co-operative cellar near Cleeburg, the start of the Alsatian Wine Route). Also on the German side, the neighbouring winegrowing village of Schweigen-Rechtenbach (with the German Wine Gate, start of the German Wine Route) or Dörrenbach or the spa town of Bad Bergzabern.
