"The cottage has everything a family needs but the communications around check-in was very poor and hotels.com's customer service was unwilling to provide any assistance. I would have thought some level of quality control helped justify hotels.com's commission. Either way, the cottage is managed by the building next door and this is where you need to go to collect the key. "

"We loved the traditional feel of this home. It’s so well designed and There’s not a ton in the vicinity, it’s a quiet neighborhood but about a 10 min walk to the nearest train. The host was very friendly and helpful and clearly "

"As a seasoned private detective who's seen his fair share of rough patches, let me tell ya, my recent stay at the VRBO house in Kusatsu Onsen was a real eye-opener. Tucked away in this gem of a spa town in Japan, this house was like finding an oasis in the desert.
Now, let's talk about the private bath, capisce? In my line of work, relaxin' ain't a common occurrence, but that private bath was like hittin' the jackpot. The hot springs water did wonders for these tired bones, washin' away all the...

"Extremely friendly staff that were happy to show us through and explain the amenities in perfect English. The meals were beautiful visually and so tasty. Definitely recommend this onsen."
"This was a pretty cool stay. It really feels like your at a traditional style Japanese Inn! We did both of the private onsens and they were awesome; One option is a wooden bath and the other is a stone bath, both options have an indoor and outdoor bath. It rained on our visit to the outdoor stone bath and it was a great experience, they supply hats for the rain too if you want.
We also did the breakfast and dinners. You get a lot of food for both, so make sure you're hungry, the food is pretty good though!
When it comes to downsides: I don't know if this is everyone else's experience, but when we arrived we were sat down and asked a bunch of questions about our stay (dinner and onsen reservation details, a survey about our stay, etc..) I understand that they need this info, but it was kind of a lot after our train journey when we just wanted to get in and relax. I sort of feel like it could have just been a single paper in your room to fill out and bring to the front or something. I also don't love being locked into times for things, and here you set your time for breakfast, dinner, and onsens. Again, it makes sense that they do this, and it's not a big problem, just something to note if you're planning on staying here! The only other minor downsides are that the shower head kind of sucked lol (water spraying out practically sideways, making it hard to get in the water), and the AC units were quite loud/annoying."
"This traditional ryotan was wonderful. It was a blend of traditional Japanese with modern updates. We booked a suite that had western beds and a private onsen. Our sons shared a smaller room with tatami mats. We selected the traditional dinner and breakfast which were wonderful experiences. If you do not like traditional Japanese food you may not like the meal option. The service was great and staff helpful, despite some language limitations. It was very conveniently located near the train station and monkey park. They provided shuttles services which we found helpful."
"Very helpful staff. Transportation provided to and from monkey park and closest train station. Get the full package and dinner and breakfast. It is well worth it and the experience is unforgettable. Thank you so much"
"While this is an older hotel, it is clean, things are in working order, and rather charming and unique. For example, I had a large room with a small patio that offered a beautiful view of the city. It’s in a quaint quiet town with gorgeous views of the mountains surrounding the town. I appreciated the thoughtful touch of hot green tea. The thermos amazingly kept the water hot even till the next morning. Because I went during « low » season in May, I was able to enjoy the onsen to myself ! The host/owner is a sweet man. It is rather expensive for one night but I did not regret my stay. I did get plenty of exercise being on the fourth floor with no elevator."
