"This hotel is a beautiful ryokan and onsen. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed it. We ate breakfast and dinner at the ryokan and really enjoyed the food - meals are 7 courses and food quality is top notch. We would highly recommend to anyone looking to stay in Yudanaka. They have a private onsen which we also booked so my husband and I could use the onsen together. "

"Ryokan Suminoyu was absolutely wonderful. We had a traditional Japanese room with two twin futons. The bathroom and shower were modern and lovely. The staff spoke English and were very gracious about our attempts to speak Japanese. The location is perfect; tucked on a quaint street in the heart of Shibu Onsen. We were picked up from the Yudanaka Station by the staff who monitored our train arrival time and were there to retrieve us when we arrived. There were also two very convenient morning shuttles to the Snow Monkey park. The walk back was down hill and only took 25 minutes. There were cabs there if you needed one. We were absolutely delighted with our Kaiseki style dinners and breakfasts. They were prepared and served beautifully and the wait staff were very gracious in explaining the various dishes and in what order to eat them. I cannot praise Ryokan Suminoyu enough. Thank you to the staff for making our first Ryokan and Onsen experience one we will never forget. "

"Amazing stay. The gentleman at the front desk who spoke great English was lovely, he helped us with everything and was also attentive during our kaiseki dinner, helping explain everything. We had a tatami room, it was nice, the bathroom a little dated, but the onsen was fabulous. The outdoor onsen was beautiful. Loved our stay here and can recommend it to anyone."
