Cast copper alloy possible strap fitting. The body of the strap fitting is an inverted drop shape, which is wider than its length. The lower tip of the body has in an integral hook which forms a sub ‘L’ shape in profile. The terminal of the hook has a circular dome. The hook element, in section, is a pointed oval. The body of the object has a convex outer surface and the reverse is concave. The outer surface is decorated with two linear grooves forming a ‘/ \’ design. The upper edge of the body has an off-set integral curved platform which has a broken upper edge; therefore its original shape is undetermined. The reverse of this element of the fitting is obliquely angled. The surface of the fitting has frequent low-relief fitting with a dark green/grey patina. It is uncertain whether it is incomplete or a fragment of a larger object. It measures 28.26mm long, 28.95mm wide and 12.78mm thick across the hook element. It weighs 12.89g. The object is possibly a strap fitting; an element of a belt chain. Examples with a hook element terminating with a circular dome are described in Stead and Rigby (Stead, I and Rigby, V. 1999 Iron Age Antiquities From Champagne in the British Museum: The morel Collection British Museum Press), Nos. 1629 and 1901 which are dated to the late Iron Age. These examples were found in female graves in Champagne.
