The legend tells that St. George was a great warrior capable of killing a dragon that terrorized the inhabitants of Silene, in Libya. The statue of the saint in the church of Ortelle, portrays him in the act of killing the beast and is one of the most beautiful and majestic existing statues in paper mache.
