My daughter and I stayed here for two nights. The staff was so incredible. They were making some construction updates to the hotel while we stayed and as a result we had some issues with our room and the gentleman at the front desk was so incredibly helpful. And they gave us so much great advice about where to park and what to do nearby. The room was small but matched the listed description, so it was exactly upon our expectations. Would stay here again.
Located in the charming town of Amboise, this no-frills hotel is a great value for the Loire Valley. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the bathroom even included a hair dryer. We arrived after hours and thanks to an email with a door code, were able to settle in quite easily. With so many shops, restaurants, and even an iconic chateau nearby, Hotel Lanex and Amboise won't disappoint.
Convenient location near the chateau. No staff for evening check in. No elevator and narrow, steep stairs. Ceiling mold above the shower. Needs renovations.
Great location and very friendly staff. The breakfast selection exceeded expectations.

The room was very cold. We told the desk but nothing happened. I had to sleep far away from the window which was wet with moisture all over. I had to wear my parka to sleep. What a terrible nightmare!! I don’t go back to that hotel.
Our room was fresh, clean and comfortable. Loved the fluffy towels! Easy walking distance to old part of town and dining areas. Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff.
We actually stayed at Hotel Chantal as Hotel Lanex was not available. We enjoyed our stay and liked the location of both properties. Did not quite understand why we were moved, but it was fine for an overnight stay.
The hotel is nice, clean and strategic. You could walk to St Michel for 1 hour.
The owner is ver friendly and helpful. For those who come in after 8pm,make sure you call thm so they an leave you a key in the" mail boxes" in fron of the entrance/restaurant
Hotels.com messed up my reservation at the hotel. The young man at the desk worked very hard to get it sorted. He was eager to suggest somewhere to eat and gave excellent directions.
I reserved a riverfront room (and paid extra for it) but was not given one. The sheets were dirty, with sticky stains on them. The bathroom was very small and also smelled strongly of sewage. It was not worthy for what we paid for. Not recommended.
First time I've ever walked out of a hotel and found another place to stay. We booked the Lanex because it looked like a good value 3-star property in a good location, central to all the chateaux... and it would have been if it was liveable.
Despite claims on Expedia about 3-star rating, the sign outside is 2-stars (I'd call it 1.5).
The room was poorly maintained. Mould on the ceiling outside the ensuite. Bathroom fittings falling apart. Mouldy smell everywhere. Room was not as clean, bright or modern as depicted - had obviously not been renovated for a long time.
The receptionist tried to be helpful. He agreed that room was unsatisfactory but the hotel was full, he apologised for the state of the room and helped us exit the hotel with our bags but he couldn't help with a refund because the stay was prepaid through Expedia.
We stayed at this Hotel Lanex for two nights. It was a good location but…
The sewerage from the toilet came up into our shower base. There where little flies buzzing around it- so disgusting.
I told the receptionist and they seemed to know about this issue already so they moved us to a different room.
The lock on the overnight access did not work one night so anyone could have walked in from the street straight into the hallways of the hotel.
The wifi did not work on our last night or in the morning when we were checking out.
I asked the receptionist for a reduction in price and they told me to email the manager.
I emailed the manager who did not want to offer me a reduction / partial refund. Instead they said they would ‘make a gesture’ to me when I stayed with them next. I will not be staying there again

Disliked: Staff & service, amenities
The property is just inside the historical area of Amboise, so a good location to see the area. The decor is tacky for being recently renovated, but you are only there for a few nights. The bed was hard as a rock and there is much noise transference between rooms (soundproofed rooms they are not).
Some of our concern was the lack of free parking offered by the hotel as they advertised “free onsite parking”. To them this meant free street parking after 1830 hours or in a public parking lot a 5 minute walk away (the hotel parking lot is about the same distance and they insist on charging 10 euros / night). Also there was issue with inconsistency between staff answers to questions. Although one could claim it was the language barrier, that was definitely not the issue. Again an issue with their advertisement via Expedia which clearly states laundry is available. When we enquired we were directed to a laundromat about an 8 minute drive away. A few days later when we mentioned we were not happy about the inaccurate information in the Expedia ad we were told there is laundry at their other location down the street and the colleague just did not know that and in regard to the parking discrepancy we were told we needed to contact Expedia as it was an issue with them. One would think that the business would be the one to ensure information was accurate and not the client.
