The room didn’t seem horrible at first but later we realized just how unkept it was. Woke up at 2 am with absolutely horrible itching on my hands and arm and thought I was having a severe reaction to something I had eaten earlier. Itching, burning and hives were from bedbug bites, finding 1 bedbug alive in the sheets upon inspection in the morning. Looked around for more and did find some bedbug carcasse and didn’t want to end up with more bites so we just left. The carpets were tacky-feeling as in sticky as was the shower floor- so much so that I could not take a shower. The curtains were not clean and were so worn on the backs of them. We have stayed at a Micro-tel before so we knew the room was smaller but at least in the past it had been clean. I’m not sure of the other rooms but today I am dealing with an allergic reaction

The tv in the room wasn’t hooked up correctly I fixed that myself it also wouldn’t load any of the apps they would just time out, breakfast consisted of cereal, a waffle or toast not much of a selection there was also no diet type soda in the vending machine

The room and all areas of the hotel were IMMACULATE and had the usual amenities. The staff here is beyond compare! They all go above and beyond to be helpful and kind. Always greeted me warmly when I returned to the facility. Always checked to see if I needed anything. They are friendly and genuinely seemed to want my stay to be a good one. I have stayed at this location a few times in the past and always return because I know I will be very comfortable and there won't be any problems. I like staying here better than staying with family!!

Staff not feeling friendly. Nothing welcoming about demeanor. Room felt unclean, possibly due to very dated furnishings and stained shower floor. Ceiling above shower was peeling. Bed linens, ugh! And the smoked glass panel that ran the length of the space behind the bed felt very much like a one way mirror…super creepy. Room did not match online photos. Cost was too high at any price

I was extremely pleased with my stay at the Microtel in Ames. It was much cleaner, nicer, and quieter than any of the similarly priced hotels where I've stayed in the area. I was especially pleased with the service I received when I checked in. The heating system in my room was not functioning, which I understand can happen. After making a quick check to see if he could fix it, the desk clerk immediately and happily assigned me another, nearby room. He brought me a new key card, waited while I unloaded my bags from the bell cart, and took the cart back to the lobby for me. Kudos!
