If you’re looking for some peace and quiet in a beautiful location with the benefit of bringing your four legged friend, this is the place for you. The rooms are stunning and the food at the pub is delicious.
The property was spectacular. What made it even better was Debbie. She greeted us, took us to our beautiful room and pampered us throughout our visit. She was incredibly kind and helpful. We will never forget our stay at the Jack Russell and plan to return as often as possible!!!
I simply cannot fault anything at all about our stay here, and that’s coming from someone who travels a lot and has extremely high standards of everything from food, service, room quality you name it, rarely have I been this impressed with a boutique hotel. 100% will be coming back and will be bringing my dogs too this time.
A really nice room, comfortable, clean and plenty of room. Very quiet inside and outside at night only nature could be heard. This place is super remote and very relaxing. Great bed, great TV and a lovely bar area for the end of the day.
The breakfast was really nice and we had dinner on our first night, which was good too, although with wine, it was expensive as were cocktails.
A friendly hotel and a great find, we will probably return another time.
Our room was in the dog house and was amazing! Couldn’t fault it! Was the decor was great and so comfortable and clean! We also booked a table in the restaurant which was lovely! Would return!
One night using Tesco Rewards as we were booked to visit Highclere Castle next day. We were extremely impressed with quality of the room and restaurant decor/furnishings. Incredibly comfortable bed (I’m a poor sleeper), lovely large bathroom. Evening dinner and breakfast next morning outstanding. Want to visit again for additional nights!
Very special rooms and the restaurant is incredible with special game menu. The estate is styled after a hunting lodge, and the sheep farm outside our window was perfect.
Picked it since we were traveling from Stonehenge to Windsor palace . It is only 1.7 miles from Highclere Castle but it was closed for shooting for Downtown abbey this week.
Absolutely loved The Jack Russell. If you want to stay in a living postcard stay here! My eyes couldn't believe the beauty I saw from my window. The inn was unique and beautifully decorated with lovely detail. We also had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed walking upstairs to the sound of live music and people laughing. I would stay here again and again. (The room was soundproof and most of the staff was nice.)

Being surrounded by a huge estate gave the JR a wonderful setting. I would have liked to stay longer to do some walking!
If you find my tweed (repaired) cap I use for shooting please let me know and I will organise its return.
What a fabulous couple of days we had at The Jack Russell. The food was definitely ‘up market’ for a pub; offering a varied menu and superb meals. We ate there both nights and were very impressed. The breakfast were superb too. Our room ( Great Dane) could not have been better appointed! It was spacious and well laid our offering views across to a the estate’s quaint church on the one side and countryside on the other. We enjoyed sitting with our morning coffee and looking out! Both evenings we we privileged to see a spectacular sunset.
The staff were all really lovely - friendly but not intrusive.
As dog owners we are always looking for somewhere that makes us feel comfortable taking Betty in, and the Jack Russell certainly did this. Walks in the area were great too.
We will definitely be returning.
Lovely stay with my husband and Jack Russell Milo, the hotel and grounds are beautiful with lovely walks. Bar area is very small and both nights extremely busy. We ate in the restaurant on both night's and the food was lovely with a great choice on the menu, a little bit pricey however you don't mind paying for quality. The only negatives were if want to charge drinks to your room a 10% service charge is added each time so better to pay as you go we also ordered Dry Martinis and lemonade and found out they were only serving 25ml when this drink should be served at 50ml when we asked for the correct amount got charge for a double (bar staff need a little more training) overall this didn't put us off and we would visit again.
We spent two nights at The Jack Russell and felt totally relaxed and were made very welcome.
An old and pretty hotel in a beautiful quiet setting.
We have four large dogs that were not restricted in any part of the hotel, apart from the kitchen obviously 😉. The dogs got huge fuss from the staff. Welcome treats included beer for dogs which we thought very unique.
The hotel is beautifully decorated, clean and cosy.
The bedrooms are spacious with very comfy beds and linen, and again, nice decor.
The pretty gardens all immaculately kept with a super cosy seating area with a fire pit, in what I think would have been part of old stables. Lots of outdoor seating, but good space between each.
The food was delicious and the breakfasts were a feast.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and are looking at booking a family get together there.
We loved that all the staff are very happy and gave a family run feel to the hotel. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
We would definitely recommend.
If we had one thing we would add/change, it would be use of the paddock, or even part of it, at the rear of the garden. This would allow a safe fun area for dogs and children, especially if a few playground items, in keeping with the surroundings, were put in place.
Thank you for a lovely relaxing weekend and hope to see you again soon.
only stayed one night whilst visiting a friend locally. really impressed with friendly staff. spacious venue. We ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely. Bar manager was very sociable for after dinner drinks.
Room was a very good size with large ensuite with bath and separate shower. Bed super comfy.
Small negatives were no milk on the hot drink tray. Impressive cobweb in bathroom and some damage to wallpaper and rug. None of which detracted from a great stay. Would easily recommend to anyone.
