The Cornerstone Cabin - Mount Rainier

This rustic cabin surrounded by trees is located just one-half mile from Mount Rainier National Park, the Nisqually entrance in Ashford, Washington. Accessible year round with a hot tub under the trees, beautiful cedar slab railed deck with deck chairs for relaxing, picnic table, BBQ, custom cedar slab dart board, marshmallow roasting pit, horseshoe pits, and extra lawn chairs for enjoying the visiting deer and peaceful outdoors. This property backs up to 500+ acres of timbered National Forest that stretch up to a beautiful ridgeline that runs to Mt Wow.

Beautifully remodeled in 2006, this 1923 cabin still retains some of its rustic charm with age warbled glass pane windows, old stone fireplace with custom cedar slab mantle, and refinished hardwood floors. The gorgeous tiled bath includes a jetted tub and shower. This rustic cabin is heated with a wood stove insert with a gorgeous old stone fireplace and cedar slab mantle, plus in September 2021 we added a split pump so now have the choice of electric heat & air conditioning as well.

Comfortable sleeping for up to 8 persons in three bedrooms and the living room. Main floor master bedroom has a super comfortable queen, the living room has a sofa that folds down into a small bed. Upstairs the bear cub room has a super comfortable queen and a single bed with a memory foam topper for extra comfort. There is an additional separate loft with a full-size memory foam futon mattress. All linens are provided and are luxurious 500+ thread count sheets, with cozy blankets & comforters or quilts on every bed. There are a total of 2 queens, 1 full futon, 1 smaller sofa futon, and 1 single beds. Linens are replaced often so may not match photos.

The main living area is a shared living room, dining area, and kitchen area. The dining table has an extra leaf in the closet next to the bathroom, unless the last group added it to the table already. There are 8 chairs around the table. The living portion has a sofa that makes down into a smaller full-size bed. There is also a couple of chairs. The kitchen area has a full-size fridge & range, microwave, toaster, coffee pot, coffee grinder, waffle iron, crock pot, instapot, can opener & blender. There are also kitchen utensils, pots/pans, bake ware, plates, cups, glasses, bowls, silverware, etc.

If traveling in winter, Mt Rainier National Park requires all vehicles carry chains into the park. This mountain cabin sits at 2000' elevation in the Cascade Mountain range, so may or may not have snow accumulation at any time between November and April depending on storm systems. The highway is plowed often so access to the cabin driveway is kept clear. The driveway has an incline, so some years once in a while during heavy snow systems, guests may prefer to park at the bottom of the driveway if not in a 4-wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle.

In the mountains, power outages are common and can occur for a few minutes to a few hours at any time of year. We try to keep this cabin stocked with flashlights and candles. Additionally, we have added battery-operated lightbulbs in the Owl's roost lamp, Bear cub room lamp, and the light fixture above the bench in the mud room. They only work in single light bulb fixtures. They have about an 8-hour charge if the power goes out. Also, there are a few push button battery operated mini-lights throughout the cabin as well.

Due to a severe allergy, dogs are not allowed in our cabin.

Great family get away

First time staying here and it was very nice. Clean also! Our 3 kids (10,8,6) came and loved it. They stayed up in the loft and was very entertained by all of the toys, stuffies, books and puzzles. There wasn’t any WiFi, which was actually nice because it had us play lots of board games and card games. Lots of family time. The kids LOVED the hot tub and hammock. Loved the seclusion and the open forest in the back yard. Beautiful. Very close to the park entrance.

Perfect location and size

We rent this every year because it is the perfect location just outside the park, has plenty of room for our family, and the owners are very communicative. They updated the kitchen and living room, making it even better!

Amazing cabin in the woods

Loved the location and the enormous trees surrounding it. Quaint little cabin was the perfect setting for our mountain getaway and the closeness to the National Park was wonderful. Everything was clean and ready to go for our family of four.

Ideal location for exploring Mt. Rainier

We traveled with our oldest four children: ages 23, 21, 17, and 15. The cabin was a great hike base for our two days of hiking in Rainier. Hot tub was relaxing after long hikes. Beds were comfortable. Would stay there again!

Mountain get away

We have been using this cabin for years to get out of town and up into the mountains. Our small family always has a good time weather we go up to Paradise or have an evening dinner at Copper Creek Inn. We would recommend it for anyone who is looking for a peaceful get away.

Lovely cabin

My family really enjoyed staying at this cozy mountain cabin. The hot tub and bbq were great amenities. We were with 4 adults and 2 children so the kitchen and living room felt a bit small, but it was cozy and in a good location. Thank you!

Cozy cabin

Very cozy cabin conveniently located next to the Mt. Rainer National Park Nisqually entrance. The cabin is well furnished and had all the amenities. Our family enjoyed the wood burning fireplace/heater given the cold days during out stay. Relaxing in the hot tub and great conversations, after spending a day hiking in the park was one the main highlights of our stay! Highly recommended and will book again on our next visit to MRNP!

Quaint Cabin in the Woods

The Cornerstone Cabin was perfect for our weekend getaway. The kitchen was well stocked, the beds super comfy, plenty of firewood to keep the woodstove going while enjoying the vast selection of DVD's. (It rained all weekend!) The hot tub was pristinely maintained. Would highly recommend this place!

Great location, very charming

This cabin was a perfect launching ground for our stay at Mount Rainier National Park. It was only about 5 minutes from the park entrance. We loved the fire pit and the dart board outside. We also loved the big movie selection. We had everything we needed there. The cabin has great rustic charm. Please be advised, there is no wifi and not much cell service here, which we didn't mind.

Fun family time next to Mt. Rainer

We had a wonderful time at this cozy cabin. It's only a 1/2 mile from the park entrance and the road up to Paradise. We had little ones with us and we were able to easily take them up to play in the snow. Back at the cabin, we really enjoyed cooking meals in the well stocked kitchen, building fires in the super efficient fireplace insert stove and soaking in the hot tub under the tall trees. What a great place to relax with the whole family. Highly recommend!

So close to Rainier National Park!

We absolutely LOVED this cabin. So close to the park entrance- less than 10 minutes. Cabin had everything we needed. Kids loved the owls nest room. My kids were a little concerned before we got the there that there was no WiFi but there are board games there and we also brought some and we never got bored. They also have hundreds of DVDs and also has a CD player if you wanted to bring some with (we couldn’t find any if they did have some at the cabin). My kids are already asking to go back, especially since the weather did not cooperate with our hikes so we never got to see the mountain.

Relaxing.

Everything was great. The only wish that we all had is that the rules instead of being posted on the bulletin board, would be in a notebook maybe on the coffee table with the guide to the area like restaurants coffee shops and the national Park information. Other than that everything was great thank you for having the firewood close by and easy to access. A small step stool under the sink would be great, we are all around 5'3 but we had one gal at 5'11 to reach plates 🙂🙂🙂🤣. Tha cabin is beautiful. We had a super relaxing time. Thank you for a loaner backpack too!!! I hope it is acceptably clean, we would love to be welcomed back! We're thinking about making this a yearly trip💕

A nice getaway

Pros: great directions. Found the cabin in the dark without getting lost. Great communication. Clean ( I did mistaken a small leak from the bathroom skylight as unclean…the cabin was super clean)The kitchen was fully supplied with with everything I needed to cook and bake with ;pots pan, plates, kitchen utensils)Really close to mount Rainer The games and movies are great! They also have a journal that you can’t write a little something about yourself inside it. That was fun to read. I really enjoyed the place. I would stay again. I think I would enjoy it much more in the summer. Cons-the cabinets are super high. Like ceiling high. They do provide a stool. The steps up to the bedrooms. Very steep. But they have a sturdy railing to hold onto

Perfect Mt Rainier Getaway!

I absolutely love that this cabin was a few short minutes away from the Nisqually entrance to MRNP. We stayed here with family for my daughter's 6th birthday and it was great. The space can be a bit cramped, but there is so much space around the property to hang out and relax depending on the weather outside. The fridge is updated and very spacious and there were surprisingly a lot of utensils to use!! We really loved the hot tub and the disconnect with no wifi service. Some tips for future travelers- -This cabin doesn't have a dishwasher, so expect to handwash and dry all of your dishes and utensils. -There are toys for children and a pack and play one of the upstairs lofts. It was a lifesaver for my two kids. -Be careful with little ones in the bear cub room, the stairs are narrow and steep and the top doesn't have railings. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again!
