Hanging Coffins and the Shennong Stream. Another very enjoyable excursion from our Yangtze River cruise. The Shennong Stream is a tributary of the Yangtze. The excursion takes you 20km up the stream through three specatacular gorges to experience the Boat Trackers - http://www.travelchinaguide.com/river/yangtze_attraction/shennong-stream.htm - they used to do this nude! On the journey you get to see the incredible hanging coffins as pictured. Originally, before the 3 Gorges dam flooded the gorge, these were 90 - 200m above the river surface. They date back 2000 years and no-one is quite sure how these incredible feats of engineering were acheived. Yichang is a town developed recently in the Hubei province of China due to the construction of the Three Gorges Dam which is the largest hydro-power plant in the world. This area is rich in natural beauty and it's really mountainous. I definitely recommend you this amazing place if you have any spare time in China.
