This unique accommodation has a wonderful style all its own. Built in 1885, it was carefully and stylishly renovated in 2021 and certified by the French Tourism Quality Association.

A historic hideaway in the charming fishing village of Barfleur, voted one of the most beautiful villages in France. A peaceful, idyllic location between the harbor and the beach—both just a 2-minute walk away. The beach is only 150 meters from the house. The scent and sound of the sea envelop the house, making it truly special.

From the very beginning, we’ve seen this simple historic house as something special. It’s part of a trio of listed buildings constructed by a wealthy farmer in the 19th century. Whenever one of his daughters got married, he built her a house. This resulted in three houses, of which ours is the middle one. You can catch a glimpse of the harbor and the sea from the first floor. The second floor offers an even better view, as it overlooks trees and shrubs.

We were very fortunate to be able to purchase the house along with all its furnishings. Much of it dates back to 1885; many pieces of furniture, doors, and details have remained unchanged for decades. Hardly anything is “new” in the traditional sense. Much of it comes from our personal collection. Added to this are black-and-white photographs by Max Kling, antiques and treasures from the region, silver and glassware from the 1950s and 1960s, design pieces and lamps from the 1970s—all of which create a very special blend. Since we live in the house ourselves for many weeks each year, you can expect a warm and personal atmosphere.

We’re looking for guests who appreciate exactly that—in addition to the wonderful location. If you’re looking for something special, authentic, and unconventional, then you’ll feel right at home with us. If you need the latest and biggest flat-screen TV, the most well-equipped spa, or a fully automated kitchen, then this isn’t the place for you.

Our home is a very simple one, which gives us space to slow down and unwind. That is our luxury. If you’re looking for a different kind of luxury, then you shouldn’t book our home—you’d be disappointed.

We don’t have a dishwasher because otherwise we would have had to ruin this beautiful historic kitchen. Instead, there’s a wonderful, large, old sink where it’s actually a pleasure to wash dishes by hand. The stairs leading up to the first and second floors are narrow and steep—by no means wheelchair-accessible. But they’re original, dating back to 1885, and have carried the feet of many generations up and down these stairs.

We don’t have a TV, but the Wi-Fi connection works very well, so you can stream anything on your own tablet or laptop. Otherwise, we have everything you need to make your stay comfortable: a washing machine, hair dryer, blender, coffee maker, iron, and so on.
