American Museum The American Museum in Britain located 4 miles east of Bath opened to the public in 1961. Built about 1820 and was called Claverton Manor On 26 July 1897 when he was 23, Winston Churchill made his first political speech here.
View from Bathford Hill Taken from open ground near Brown's Folly. The local TV transmitter near the left hand edge is at the top of Bathampton Down ST7765 which has Bathampton at its foot. The higher of the two roads in this area is the A36 to Beckington and Warminster. The lower is a local road going to Batheaston via a toll bridge over the River Avon. The hill to the right is the bottom of Lansdown hill, and the countryside between is north Somerset looking toward Farmborough and Pensford.
