Gardens and building Lovely Could do with fan in room as unable to open window as sash cord broken Tv had linited channels as most weren't working Not able to order food in the evening in restaurant on a monday Cocktails £12 but it would have been helpful if there was a description on the menu of what each cocktail consisted of, rather than have to ask what each one was

Happy Place

We have been staying at the hotel for the past 15 years. We also recommend it to family and friends. We love the location and the appearance and lovely grounds. We hardly spent any time in the hotel on this occasion. Our room was lovely and spacious. The bathroom is looking tired but it is very clean. Breakfast was lovely, and ordered from the table. We feel that the hotel and Makeney is our "happy place". Overall, a lovely stay and we'll definitely be back. Thank you

Reasonably priced nice Hotel

Nice little find very reasonable nice room Lovely food nice staff . Carpark quite noisy people in and out at all times and £15 for breakfast in my opinion is well over priced ,should be £10 max .Other than that nice Hotel .

Location and grounds were very nice but interior a real let down. Bed was extremely springy and uncomfortable, the worst I have ever experienced. Room itself was not great overall.

Lovely place and would go back

Only had a 1 night stay for a local event. Lovely place to stay in private grounds. The building was very nice although the room in the courtyard was slightly dated and basic but clean and comfortable. We took our dog with us and had an evening meal with friends (8 of us) and they gave us our own private room (a meeting room) which was great and perfect for all of us. Bar staff was very helpful and efficient. Would definitely go back if in the area again.

I couldn't have asked for more from my one-night stay. The location of Makeney Hall was perfect for my needs, with errands to run nearby over a couple of days plus a football match in Derby on the night, so it was nice and accessible. The room was clean and comfortable, quiet too, all the staff I spoke to while I was there were friendly and helpful.

One night business stop over.

Was only there for 1 night before heading off to Cornwall very early. No problems at all, staff were friendly and welcoming and the room exactly what I needed. Highly recommended!!

Makeney Hall was an ok place to stay. It was a long way from great but equally had some very good points. The staff were all helpful and friendly and on arrival I was given an upgrade which was a brilliant surprise, and very much appreciated indeed! The room was large and comfortable, bed comfy but pillows were really hard and not great at all. Weak shower flow and toilet wasn't very clean (stained quite a bit brown, I wouldn't let my toilet at home get like that...). The hotel is really very tired and crying out for some TLC; painting, decor etc. It's a real shame as the building is lovely and is steeped in local history. The gardens are beautiful and a lot tidier than the house! Food is ok but the full English breakfast is fantastic, one of the best for sure which I highly recommend! So all in all, sadly a few negatives but also some good positives too. If I returned I would definitely take my own pillow! Belper is a super place to visit, right on the edge of the peaks with some stunning countryside and lots to do.

Gorgeous place

We love staying at Makeney. We got married here last year and went back for our anniversary- trying to work out how many times. We think this was our 19th stay and have another visit planned for September/ October. Lovely place, gorgeous refurbished bedroom, comfy and clean. Parking on site. We didn’t eat here this time but the food is always spot on. Gorgeous grounds too. Can’t wait to stay again :)

Room was lovely and comfortable with everything you'd need, couple of loose tiles on the bathroom but otherwise room was great. My only criticism would be the limited menu-what I had was nice but v.little choice and there wasn't a low-fat menu choice.

The hotel is a lovely building in nice gardens. Our suite had been, seemingly, recently refurbished and was of good quality. The location is great for exploring the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District. There could have been information in the room and the dining options were a bit limited. Fiona on reception was great and recommended an excellent place to go to eat and was helpfulness personified. I would recommend staying here.
