Comfort Inn Danvers - Boston North Shore

4/10 Poor

"Breakfast ok. Basic, Main elevator broke down when i arrived. Towel holder in the bathroom fell off. Place needs work. One of the entrances had a broken gate. Strange. Staff is nice.Not worth what I paid for it. Place is standing by the skin of its teeth First and last time staying there. "

"This is a hotel in the heart of Salem, so it is convenient to the shops without having to drive, or ride. It is also a hotel with lots of history, and is on the Historical Hotels list. If you want modern, and spacious, this is not the place for you. The Hawthorne is a hotel that transports you back in time. It demands a quiet respect for the fascinating look back at the craftsmanship of days gone by. The staff is very accommodating, and the rooms are clean. Is there some paint chips on the fixtures? Yes. Is the elevator small? Yes. But, there is a postal drop box on each floor, and the elevator still has a wooden ceiling. It is history incarnate, in a city you come to for history. It will set the ambiance for your whole trip."

"Check in was easy albeit a bit underwhelming. I love the old, historical, boutique vibe. My room, The Cook, was a small basic room with a comfortable double or queen (?) size bed. The room was clean and fairly well appointed. Unexpected & pleasantly surprised: * Elevator * Continental breakfast in the second floor common area * Complimentary bottled water in the room * Overhead lighting AND dual bedside reading lights * A small frig with pay-as-you-go adult alcoholic beverages (did not do, but nice to have the option) * Plenty of towels and soap/shampoo * Adjustable heat pump Oddities AND disappointments: * ONLY 1 wastebasket and it was in the bathroom * No place to put recyclables * No bath mat (a bit slippery) and no floor mat to step out onto * Flat sheet OVER the comforter and then only a fitted sheet so I took the top sheet and comforter apart and flipped them so the flat sheet was against my skin * The room had 2 windows which were small, high up & beyond my reach so I was unable to adjust the blinds. There was light pollution filtering in during the dark hours (luckily I had an eye mask)."

"It’s a nice hotel, stayed here to get off the highway for the night. I find there to be to many rules and extra fees for things here though. The pool says it’s supposed to be just for hotel guests but they actually allow people from the gym to use it as well. Also you can not have any pool toys in the pool at all floaties, noodles, sinkers tubes nothing. You have to pay extra for everything there’s no breakfast no coffee out in the lobby no water. There is an ice machine so that’s one good thing about it for a night it’s not bad. We got the king room with the kids beds which was my favourite part so the kids can have there own beds. One thing they should address though instead of hiding is the bed frame being out to far for the bed I ended up smashing my leg on the bar underneath because they hid it with a bed skirt left a pretty bad bruise too."

"We spent four nights here Our room was attractive but a bit too small with little room to maneuver around the king sized bed. New mattresses might be in order as ours was very soft and by the end of our stay was downright uncomfortable. Our room was quiet except for one night when a loud group gathered outside a bar on the corner. adjacent bar. We were able to walk to restaurants, shops and attractions. There is paid onsite parking. The garage was nearly full both weekend nights when we returned from visiting with family but we managed to find one open spot. Breakfast options were varied with plentiful seating. Pool was nice. We’d stay there again."

"A four night stay yielded no cleaning or freshening of the room. Trash piled up. A two day supply of towels was provided and never replenished. The room had a foul smell, likely from the carpet. One front desk staff was friendly and another was quite wretched."
