  • Hover above west campus in an old-growth forest, surrounded by protected conservancy land while enjoying spectacular long-range views. This mountain retreat invites you to breathe deeply and reconnect with nature. Whether you’re seeking a romantic escape, a quiet personal retreat, or a gathering place for friends, enjoy your cabin high above the beautiful town of Black Mountain. Your cozy one-bedroom cabin has everything you need for comfort and calm, with a private porch overlooking one of the best views in the region. From this high-elevation perch, you’ll feel completely immersed in the forest canopy— Featuring a great diversity of birds (91 species recorded), we have the Audubon society’s distinction of Important Bird Area--“one of the most significant examples of high elevation forest and natural communities in the southern Appalachians.” The cabin is part of the Black Mountain Stomping Grounds, a private sanctuary bordering conservation land. This place is FANTASTIC!! It's quiet, peaceful, and has incredible views of the mountains. Don't let the drive up intimidate you because it is worth it!! The hosts are so nice and have paid attention to all the details that made staying here special, from the automatic nightlight in the bathroom to the games in the living area. I have now convinced myself I need a small cabin tucked high in the woods because I didn't want to leave. Black Mountain and Montreat are small towns with so much charm just a short drive away and if you're adventurous like we were, Chimney Rock is about an hour (which sounds like a lot but it's because you go through so many 35-mph zones), the Blue Ridge Parkway winds around the area the cabins are, and there are small lakes and hiking trails everywhere around here. If you're a birder, there are a variety of species found on the premises and I was greeted by a pair of Barred Owls the first morning and a Blue-Headed Vireo sang everyday while I sat on the deck. There are a ton of hotspots around that area also as well as the river bottom and wetland area at the bottom of the entry road. There is also a huge meadow on the road before the entrance road which might offer some owls and sparrows but unfortunately I was pressed for time and didn't get to thoroughly bird the area. If you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy Nature then I would highly recommend staying here. If you want crowds and noise you may want to look elsewhere.
