"Decent hotel overall which ticks all the boxes without quite reaching any particular 'wow' factor. The private loungers on the beach were a highlight and the beach is clean with good sand, clear water and great for swimming. Theres also 2 additional pools which are decent and not busy even in peak season when we visited. Being an adults only hotel meant that it was peaceful without noisy kids taking over, however there are a lot of screeching cicadas in the area which are a bit like sitting next to a car alarm especially on the room's balcony area. We opted for half board which was unnecessary as we went into town for dinner, the evening buffet was ok but not amazing, breakfast buffet was good though. From chatting to locals this is one of the bigger hotels in the area and one of the few adults only. Its well regarded locally but having been to varoius other 5 star places it wasnt exceptional, but for Chania its a very good option. The hotel is well located with a handy public bus service into old town; Chania town is very pleasant and has a lot of good places to eat but the best restaurants are away from the harbour. Overall an enjoyable stay."

"Great holiday. Easy check-in, great team of staff that took care of every need we had; including a late check out request. The room was lovely and clean, with water supplied daily. We enjoyed cooling off in our plunge pool too. The breakfast service and breakfast selection was great. The beach is beautiful, with calm clean water. There were plenty of available loungers, towels provided, you could order delicious quality food and drinks direct from your lounger, which is brought to you. The beach bar, Sushi restaurant/bar and main restaurantall all serve delicious, high quality dishes... the main restaurant's al a carte dinner menu and desserts were amazing, with beach views and relaxed entertainment for ambience! Equally, the room service was excellent too. I'd definitely return because the team and staff are great and so are the facilities with a relaxed vibe, and lots of quiet and peace if you want it."

"The hotel is isolated close to the Samaria gorge’s trail departure. It’s perfect if you plan to visit the gorge. The hotel is a little outdated but it offers everything you need for your stay and is very affordable. The plus is the team. All of them are super nice and they make your stay unforgettable. I recommend everyone to get there just to enjoy being treated nicely in a very natural way."

From providing food, drink and treats for us to making sure everything was as it should be and then a gift when we left - thank you! The best guide as to whether a holiday was good or not in my mind is whether you would go back to the same place. In this instance the answer is a resounding YES"

"It is a very nice property in a secluded area providing privacy and quiet. When driving to the property (using WAZE or Google Maps) use the term 'Old Fountain Villas' as the destination, not the street address. The street address will get you lost and going in circles! It is not the property address but only a mailing address. The property does show some signs of age but it is clean and the owners are nearby and very willing to help with any issues. The pool is good size and very well maintained and perfect for a family. Bed linens were clean and fresh. You will have a wonderful view of the water/bay from up on the hillside. This is a good location for exploring the island and about a 25 min drive to downtown Chania. We had a wonderful welcome gift if a homemade orange cake that we thoroughly enjoyed! Supermarket shopping is about 15 min drive (Lidl)."

"A beautiful house in the mountains. If you want peace and quiet this is perfect. The views are incredible. Despoina is a wonderful host who generously made us homemade cakes! This part of Crete is not busy but the local tavernas offer wonderful food (cheaper than in the main areas). The mornings are cooler in the mountains so this is a good area for walking."
