Somewhere to the north of this railroad track lies the unkempt Caledonia Nature Preserve. The 37 acre nature preserve along the Olentangy River is currently inaccessible due to a condemned bridge.
Terradise Nature Preserve is a small park with trails along the Olentangy River that boasts over 30 species of spring wildflowers and more than 40 species of native trees and shrubs.
One of the vernal pools at Heckert Nature Preserve. Vernal pools are ephemeral wetlands that collect in the spring and usually dry up in the heat of the summer. Since they aren't full year round, they don't generally support fish. This benefits smaller amphibious creatures who can reproduce more successfully without the threat of fish predators.
