We had arrived at 8 in the morning. Because we booked “3rd party” Expedia, we were told we could not ck in til 4:00 pm regardless if there were available rooms. Then when we did get a room “luxury suite ocean view” it was on the side of the property overlooking a permanent construction staging area. Knowing we probably could not check in til later when we booked (thinking 1-2) we kept bathing suits with us. but it was a tropical storm passing by, and we slept out on the pool loungers in the 35 mph winds. Friends there that are “owners” at Westin managed to get us that “ocean front” room at 2 pm. The suite itself was very spacious, very nice, super clean, like-new furnishings, excellent beds. Property is older, (lobby getting renovated) but pretty and in a very nice upscale area on the barrier island of Cancun. Workers/waiters at pool were very good and so friendly as were housekeepers and concierge personnel. The only other negative:
The property itself was poorly marked: there weren’t signs for all elevators, and elevators are not convenient or where you would expect. And confusing. Example: if your room was in building 7, on the 5th floor, you could have a number 754. But you could also have 1081 on the same level.
Other than “3rd party” treatment, and getting lost looking for elevators, the stay was really nice and we would go back. Excellent restaurants and high end shopping in the area. Very safe area. Convenient to airport, downtown and excursions.
