Fields north of Cheriton Fitzpaine
Cheriton Fitzpaine: rainclouds arriving from the south west. Looking south from the lane between Grantland and Beerash Cross
Cheriton Fitzpaine: above East Forde. Looking west on a footpath from Lower Burrow Coombe. Shobrooke Lake runs south through the valley and once powered watermills at Lower North Coombe, Stockleigh Pomeroy and Shobrooke [‘Lake’ is sometimes used to name a river or stream in the south west of England]
Cheriton Fitzpaine: north-north-west from Upcott Barton. View from a point near Upcott Barton, a farm since Saxon times. The barton was the scene of a murder: judge Nicholas Radford, its owner, was killed by Thomas, Earl of Devon, on 23 October 1455. This event was one of the harbingers of the Wars of the Roses. Earlier, during Viking raids, the Exeter mint was removed to a castle hereabouts: its site lies in nearby fields
