Alton is a peaceful rural hamlet, just a mile from Ashover, which itself has a selection of inns and village shops. There are several farm shops and eateries within 1-3 miles, and fishing ponds, a golf course and a riding school are all within 5 minutes’ drive. Chatsworth House is just a 15-minute trip, as are Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, and the nearest town of Matlock is full of attractions and amenities: there is a beautiful park, the attractions of Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham (a hilltop park), as well as a popular golf course and antique shops. Bakewell, with its bustling farmers market, boutique shops and riverside activity, is just 20 minutes away, and is a perfect gateway to both the Dark Peak and White Peak areas that this stunning region is known for. If staying closer to home is more your intention, the property offers a selection of walks from the door, linking in to the huge network of footpaths around the Ashover Parish and beyond. The historic market town of Chesterfield, with its famous crooked spire, is just 6 miles away, and has many cycle paths along its canal, as well as plenty of rainy day activities.
