More so than any other property we've stayed at, this felt like a real home, full of comforts and conveniences that make all the difference. Joe is a thoughtful host that truly wants his guests to feel welcomed and relaxed. During our stay, we felt like we had found a second home in the mountains.
Most evenings were spent preparing dinner in the fully outfitted kitchen or BBQing on the grill. Even in July, the enormous wrap-around screened-in porch was cool and comfortable, and we enjoyed most of our meals outside under festive string lights. We especially enjoyed picking out music from the impressive collection of LPs and lounging in the numerous comfortable chairs, inside and out.
The house is within minutes of Caesars Head State Park and the lovely Raven Cliff Falls—perfect for an early morning or evening hike. (Also check out Dargans Cascade—the trailhead is walkable from the house.) You are in easy striking distance of Dupont State Forest, Pisgah National Forest, Jones Gap State Park, Table Rock State Park, and countless other swimming holes and trails. It's really a hiker's and nature lover's paradise. Asheville, Brevard, Highlands, and more are all a short drive away. Break in your boots in Panthertown or in Pisgah and then hit the farmer's market in Cashiers or the smokehouse in Highlands!
There isn't cell service at the house but the wifi works great and a landline is available for phone calls. We didn't have any problems during our stay, but if we did, it was clear that Joe would be available to solve them for us. We had a lovely stay on the border of North and South Carolina and we would love to return!
