"They need to have more staff and just come up with an excuse it’s busy, breakfast on Sunday morning 16 people in the restaurant and we had to wait over 20 mins to be asked what we would like, upon questioning if all was ok why we had not been asked I was met with attitude from the manager and the excuse they were busy, clearly under staffed and just 2 running the restaurant, after complaining have this negative response we waited a further 15 mins before being asked, my wife at this stage giving up and making good with toast! Not what we paid for! £226 paid for 2 nights over £250 spent at the bar and food and me complaining is unacceptable as they are busy. Plus side food was good, tea and coffee needs addressing as using flasks and not hot water and also jugs of milk running out and again people waiting to use this."

"This was our 6th stay at The Essex and we never have any complaints. The rooms are good size and have been recently refurbished. The location is nice and quiet, with a nice walk round the local airfield"
The North Hill Hotel, Colchester

"The ground floor bar and entrance is lovely but that theme didn't follow to the rooms. Perhaps I should have paid for a better room but I was hoping for the same vibe upstairs. Rather than sleek and quirky it was more student basic in my opinion. The paint on the ceiling in the bedroom and the bathroom were peeling off and there was black on the ceiling above the shower. The room was functional. However the team were polite, friendly and efficient and instead of working in my room I worked downstairs in the relaxed bar area. I didn't have breakfast but when I checked out a couple were having what looked and smelled like I lovely cooked breakfast! I would stay again but would go for an upgrade room and hope it was more like those in the pictures."
