Distinctly average in appearance but expected for the price. Hotel entrance was open but we actually had to check in at the bar, I assume manager (large Eastern European man) was less than welcoming. No thought given to the booking compared to the room given. Double bed room booked, given two single beds on separate sides of the room. This was corrected without enthusiasm. Moved to a room that the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned and smelled. Was told this would be corrected and believe it was. Bed was pretty terrible, shower was as cheap as they come.
In the morning we asked about breakfast as there is a dining room with guests happily eating but no mention of it and verbatim were told “No breakfast for you...” went across the road to the cafe and they couldn’t be more welcoming.
Overall stay wasn’t very good. We had a toilet leak which kept me awake all night. There was no1 around to talk to about this issue. There was no1 around when it came to check out the whole place was closed, there were people waiting for breakfast sat in the dark with the kitchen closed. The milk in the room was also 4months out of date.

Lots of character, lovely looking old building with beamed bar and nice looking breakfast room
Unfortunately I will not be recommending this hotel to anyone!
I/We feel it is badly run, very rundown, messy and not clean! The beds are very uncomfortable. I am afraid to say that the floor looked more comfortable than the bed but given the condition of the floor I did not felt I could sleep on it!.
The staff were friendly but we feel the hotel/pub is run by two people who can not possibly cope with the demand of the job.
Our bedroom had clear signs of dampness, paint peeling off the walls, the carpet was not hoovered and the windows full of dead creepy crawlies, the bathroom, I better not go there!.Let's say .. It is not what I would expect on any hotel regardless of the costs. I/ we feel that the rate paid of £90.00 per night was FAR TOO expensive due to the standard of the hotel. I hereby suggest for someone with authority to go and measure the level of standards that as a hotel/Inn should be met.
We were asked to pay for the room on arrival! - not a problem but I now know WHY??? once you have paid....... you cannot go back!
No pictures on the walls, rubbish! in one word - it was not a good experience!. - I can ONLY claim to have been in a HOSTEL! and a poor one!
With thanks
Gloria
My husband and I are from Liverpool and we're invited to my brothers wedding. I chose this hotel basically because it was the cheapest. I was more than pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The hotel is family run and the owners were just lovely! They made us feel at home instantly. The rooms had everything we needed and were clean, the food was tasty and fresh. We even had problems trying to get a taxi and the owner went out of her way to ask a friend to help out and give us a lift! Very impressed and would definitely book to stay again!
Thankyou Nicky and husband! From Leanne and mike. 😊
Room run down and dated. Bed hard and dipped to the middle. No shower but bath with shower head but cannot use as a shower over bath. No sink plug. Toilet roll holder missing off wall. Furnishings dated. Many dead beetles and flies on window sill. Sheets and towels were clean and fresh. No instructions on how to check out. No one about when we left so had to go back to room and left keys in door.
The food in the restaurant was excellent and the ambience and the staff in the bar was great. The room however was disappointing. I realise that it is a heritage uilding and is charming but the beds were really hard and uncomfortable. When we got there although the room was very clean there was not a scrap of loo roll in the room. Despite letting them know it had still not been replaced by the time we had finished dinner and I had to go all the way downstairs again as there was no phone in the room. Also nobody around when we left about 7.30am and it was all dark so we just left the key on the side - slightly bizarre!
I love this pub but this was the first time I had stayed. I booked the double with the picture of the 4 poster bed but got a small double room. It was fine and bed was comfortable so no big deal for us. (Mentioning for those that would be disappointed). However, 2.30 in the morning the fire alarm went off and petrified us as there had been a fire there in the past.
Although it only went on for a few minutes it felt like forever as we jumped out of bed and scrambled ourselves together to get out of the building. It didn’t come to that as all went off and all fine. There was a few scramblings around and people talking but it did stop.
Anyway, no apology under the door or call the following morning to apologise etc so a little disappointed as I couldn’t sleep after that so feel it was money not well spent.
I was lucky that I was with my partner and looked after but not sure I would of been comfortable if I’d of been staying on my own. I get it probably was an accident and all was sorted but an apology would of just been a polite thing to do.
Comfortable room however, my wife has a dodgy leg and had to climb three stairs. There was no lift so she asked for assistance but the manager was not too happy to help. Breakfast nice however we asked for a poached egg and got a fried egg instead.

Very good for the price. Comfortable beds and nice linen and towels but no fresh air as the window would not open
Hotel has seen better days and urgently needed updating. Bed very uncomfortable, duvet too small, net curtains in tatters, furniture worn out. Bathroom tiles cracked, shower leaked. Staff seem uninterested. Came down 15 mins earlier than we said for breakfast 8.15 instead of 8.30 - no one in sight, kitchen closed. We would have left without breakfast but no one to pay
