About this property
Gorgeous setting! Hot Tub, Close to town with private Lake
Escape to this spacious mountain retreat—sleeping 8–10 guests—tucked into the serene woods above Nicholson Lake, perfectly positioned between the town of Crested Butte and the Mount Crested Butte Ski Area. Just 3.5 miles from town and an easy singletrack bike ride away, this home offers the ideal balance of privacy, scenery, and convenience. Perched on a scenic knoll with the Slate River on one side and Nicholson Lake on the other, the property boasts sweeping mountain views in every direction. Step outside for immediate access to snowshoeing and cross-country ski trails, or head just minutes away to downhill skiing, shops, restaurants, and the welcoming charm of Crested Butte. In warmer months, enjoy paddleboarding on the lake or floating down the river right from the property. The main house features five bedrooms and four full bathrooms, plus two additional beds and a half bath—perfect for multiple families or larger groups. Gather in the spacious dining room, breakfast nook, or the inviting main living area. The fully equipped kitchen, half bath, laundry room, and mud/gear room provide comfort and convenience. You’ll also enjoy five flat-screen satellite TVs, high-speed internet, a Finnish sauna, and a year-round outdoor hot tub. The lower level includes additional bedrooms and a second living room with surround-sound TV/DVD—great for kids or a separate hangout space. For added privacy, a charming guest house is available for an additional fee, offering its own queen bedroom, private bath, and efficiency kitchen. Please inquire if it is available for renting. Summer guests will love the outdoor mini-playground, seasonal screened dining room, and cozy camp-style fire pit perfect for marshmallow roasting. In winter, enjoy included snow-removal service and a one-car garage. The spacious driveway offers plentiful parking year-round—a rare perk compared to in-town or ski-area rentals. (We highly recommend 4WD during winter months.) This home offers room to spread out, gather, and truly enjoy the mountains—inside and out. Perfect for families, friends, and anyone seeking a peaceful getaway close to everything Crested Butte has to offer.

Short drive to base area. House was a beautiful piece of construction. We all enjoyed our stay very much. Thanks for a fantastic week in a special ski town with a one of a kind mountain.
Property as described and Elizabeth was super easy and accommodating to a few special requests. All 5 of us had a comfortable private bedroom. Snow removal was seamless, and location was equidistant from the ski resort and downtown. No public transport options in this area, so AWD rental car is a must.
Beautiful house and view. E. Smith was easy to communicate with. Kitchen is well stocked. Hot tub and sauna were used almost every night. Very roomy for the nine of us. The only downside to the quiet beautiful lot is that it is 20 minutes from either ski resort or town. The road was plowed and two wheel drive would suffice.
The house was cosy and comfortable with a great hot tub for relaxing after skiing. Elizabeth was very helpful and responsive to all inquiries. Would love to come back again in both winter and summer.
Wonderful house to say near crested butte. About a 10 min drive to either town or ski mountain. House was very pleasant with beautiful views, well stocked kitchen, plenty of bedrooms (2 upstairs and 4 in the basement). Communication was excellent with easy check in and check out. Would happily stay here again. We spent plenty of time in the hot tub and you could snowshoe right from the house.
Beautiful surroundings, quiet, lots of space, great property and responsive hosts

Lovely home in a beautiful setting! The home accommodated two families easily.
We cooked our meals and so appreciated pantry basics, spices, well-stocked kitchen in general! The sauna and spa were a lovely bonus-great for sore ski legs! Again, this is a lovely home in a beautiful setting. We appreciated 3 master bedrooms as well as the flexible sleeping spaces. Some suggestions: it was disconcerting that so much of the owners' personal belongings were there-clothes in closets and drawers, lots of family pictures, etc. In addition, the beds and bedding were not consistent for the price point for this house. All should be updated. We enjoyed the family room but the seating was generally uncomfortable; again, not consistent with the price point. Given the updates we would rent again.

Top of the world!
My first impression was that we were sitting on top of the world when I took in the view of Nicholson Lake and the peaks beyond. Then the night sky made me think I could reach out and grab the stars! The house is beautifully maintained and any questions are immediately answered. No problems whatsoever. There is no end of activities, especially outdoors--walks down to Slate River directly from the house, fishing or paddle boarding in the private lake, cycling on the endless trails or mountain biking galore. The town offers plenty of places to eat and to listen to music while soaking up the western, laid back atmosphere. Depending upon when you go, there are arts fairs, music festivals and public policy forums. I enjoyed it so much that I brought family members who enjoyed it (almost) as much as I did. It is one of those places--the house, the wilderness, the town--that you are conflicted about letting others know about!

Amazing vacation and very close to the ski are
We really enjoyed our staying in this house. After ski days the hot tub and sauna was the best part. We had plenty of room...big kitchen and a nice dinning area with a piano. First floor had a nice audio system for watching movies!!!They had everywhere lot of games for the guests left. We had no time to play them all :)
The house is in a private area, quite and amazingly we actually had more snow then any other neighborhoods, saying so because we went there before New Year and in 7 days not even once snowed there unfortunately. So all the snow was from before we got there.
The only suggestions I have to the owner are:
1.for the winter holidays at least some decorations or a small Christmas tree to wait in there for the guests...for the atmosphere...i mean its that magic time of the year
2.provide each room with an air humidifier, the air was super dry ,which made the sleep at night uncomfortable
3.make sure the refrigerator it's left totally empty for each guest.
P.s We recommend the house and would go back again thanks to Elizabeth, the person who was taking care of the property...our vacation was facilitated, she would answer all our calls, give us advices what fun to do there in town, where to find the groceries, ski passes, equipment ,etc...if I didn't mention earlier for most of us this was our first ski vacation,so we did need a good guide :) Thank you Elizabeth again.

Nice getaway
The hot tub and sauna were a nice way to relax after a day of cross country skiing. Nice views. Beautiful house. The location is remote but not too hard to get to, giving a nice secluded feel. Or kids also really enjoyed the big playroom and bunk room on the ground floor.

Beautiful CB getaway
We stayed over New Year's Eve last year - the house is huge, beautiful, well stocked, and only 5-10 minutes from town. It's perfect for a large group. You can socialize in the kitchen, breakfast nook, living room, or den and retreat to your own room for down time. We highly recommend this property!

wow- unbelievable access! And privacy so close to town.
We stayed here last Christmas and the access to the surrounding public land was unparalleled. It was hard to believe we were only 10 minutes from town because we felt like we were in our own private forest. I loved Cross country skiing out the road many days (I could even link up to the groomed skate ski track that comes out from town), and other days I could tour the local backcountry ridges that are so easily gained from here. To wake up and see Mt Crested Butte in the morning helped me feel very close to the ski hill and yet so far away from city life. I was recommended to get an AWD vehicle but my front WD car did fine when it didn't snow a foot overnight. It had ample indoor space to spread out and socialize or to retreat to when I wanted. I will definitely take my family back here soon.

I love this house!
I've stayed at this house both in winter and summer and have thoroughly enjoyed both experiences. This well-appointed house is warm and cozy with plenty of natural light in winter. After a few hours cross-country skiing through the valley (which you can access just at the end of the street) the sauna and hot tub feel terrific. It's light and breezy in the summer with several patios, stunning views, and is steps to a gorgeous meadow and river. This is a good house for multi-family visits because there are several bedroom areas on different levels, which allow for plenty of privacy. The lower-level three-bedroom grouping with adjoining family room is perfect for young children or a large family. It's a short drive to the town and the mountain, so you definitely need a car to stay here, but parking is ample.
