Wilmer and Andres are phenomenal hosts - that’s just as honest as it gets.
They made sure that all of their guests were treated like family. The warmth of the staff is also a plus and the breakfasts they prepare are superb.
This has been one of the best experiences I have had at a hotel in the 40+ years of traveling. It is a very quaint hotel in the historic district of Cuenca. The beauty and charm jumps out at you as soon as you walk thru the doors. The staff is very accommodating and friendly.
This was my favourite place to stay in during my month-long trip in Ecuador. I've never had the chance to stay in an accommodation as welcoming, beautiful and comfortable as this one and the staff, from the wonderful manager down to those working at the lobby and doing housekeeping, were the most professional, kind and attentive I've ever experienced. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud, the breakfast was delicious every day and served in a gorgeous interior garden, the shower was hot with shampoo and body wash supplied daily but what really made an impression on me was how much the staff cared about guests. I arrived in Cuenca after a few days in Banos with no clean clothes, they sorted me out straightaway and I only had to pay a few dollars for laundry. What really impressed (and made me emotional!) was that on the day I left, the manager woke up early to pack me a lunch for the bus ride and even gave me his thermos for a coffee because they had run out of takeaway cups. Then he called me a taxi and helped me to it when it arrived. Honestly, I have no words for the level of kindness and professionalism I experienced with this accommodation - everyone there deserves a raise and huge praise for their flawless work!! Next time I'm in town, there is no doubt this is where I would stay. Thank you so much for everything :)
Everything in the house is clean and in perfect shape, no noise in there, the Owner always available, friendly and helpful.

Very unique Colonial furniture. I wish the front desk was more available for questions or they had information about tours available in the area . Breakfast was good.
Peaceful and conveniently located, we loved our stay at Casa Montalvo. The beds are very comfortable, as are the room amenities. The common spaces are also a major plus! There’s a beautiful garden and a lovely covered patio. Both have great WiFi, which we used to check emails and have a couple video meetings. Sonia is very sweet, and helped us arranges taxis and let us hang out in the garden while we waited for our flight. Highly recommend!
I can’t begin to say how amazing our stay was here! The staff was UNBELIEVABLY KIND! They went out of their way to accommodate us and truly went above and beyond during our entire stay! One of the things that impressed me was that they are so intricate and detailed in their decor and their attention to detail, particularly for the breakfast was amazing! I have recommended this place to all of our friends and family and plan to come back here!
I can't say enough about the Casa Montalvo team and how pleasant the place is. Just a beautiful small hotel that feels very comfortable and homey. Everyone is so sweet and attentive, and the breakfasts are gourmet. Wilmer is an amazing chef and manager. They go the extra mile to ensure guests have all they need to have a great stay in Cuenca. Great location too.
This hotel is beautiful and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. They go above and beyond to ensure that you have an amazing stay. The breakfast is made fresh when you get to the dining area and incorporates traditional cuisine of Cuenca. The area around the hotel is quiet and safe, and is walkable to other locations.
A true hidden gem in Cuenca.
From the moment you arrive, you feel the peace, warmth, and attention to detail. The place is beautiful, tranquil, and surrounded by a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to relax and enjoy nature.
The service is simply exceptional. The entire staff makes guests feel right at home, always with kindness, dedication, and a genuine smile.
The breakfasts are wonderful and prepared to the guest's liking. The delicious homemade bread, the exquisite artisanal jams made in-house, and the aromatic waters prepared with plants harvested from their own gardens are particularly noteworthy—details that make the experience even more special and authentic.
Congratulations to the owner and the entire team for their extraordinary work. The love, effort, and passion poured into every corner of this beautiful place are evident.
Without a doubt, this is a highly recommended spot for those seeking tranquility, quality, and an unforgettable experience in Cuenca.
This is an amazing bed n breakfast in the heart of the historic district. The property is very beautiful and very quiet even though it's in the heart of the city. We stayed at an apartment the week before a couple blocks away that was very loud. It was nice to stay here and have a quiet retreat but still walk to evening. The garden is beautiful and the owner is very very nice. Thank you!!
Although the neighborhood was not the best, stepping inside brought you to a very nice, clean and comfortable place to stay. The owner/manager, was very accommodating to our needs and very pleasant to work with. Breakfast was nice with fruit, fruit juice, eggs, bread and jam. She provided good coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. The beds were very comfortable and the showers were HOT!. It was a very pleasant stay. We were within walking distance of the main Cathedral as well as several other cathedrals and shopping.
Casa Montalvo was a lovely place to stay and conveniently located, and our hostess Sonia was gracious and helpful. I recommend staying here wholeheartedly. I do want to give other travelers a heads-up that upon arrival you will be expected to either pay in cash (we did not arrive with enough for a four night stay in one of the suites) or, in order to pay with a credit card, you will have to pay an additional fee and have your photograph taken on her phone for some sort of payment app - this was not disclosed and came as an unpleasant surprise. Again, I recommend Casa Montalvo and Sonia wholeheartedly, but this payment requirements should be made clear when booking on hotels.com
