Mai House Saigon Hotel

"I've been to a couple of hundred hotels and this one might have been my favorite. The staff were superb about adding to the experience. All requests were handled successfully and quickly. The people were happy to have a friendly word. The breakfeast buffet was probably the best I've ever had. I think it's joint first as my best dining experience in Vietnam. It was so good and we had it so often. Everything you can think of and much more, including things like pho, fabulous baked pastries and bread, smoked lox, many varieties of other dishes, Vietnamese, French, American and various others. The rooms were very nice, though nothing particularly more than you would expect in a good hotell. The pool and the bathrooms had some pleasant retro vibes. The cleaning staff were, however, better. They managed to be both less obtrusive, more efficient and friendlier than I've seen in other hotels. Important tip: the room prices vary a lot depending on which days you want to be there. If you can get 40 % off staying different days than you wanted, consider doing exactly that."

"The Rex is located in the very heart of District 1 in Saigon.. moments from the Walking Street and other iconic attractions such as the Post Office and Notre Dame. The style of the hotel is quite old school with dark woods and classic design. Bed firm and comfortable with a pillow menu. Ironing set delivered via concierge available by email at all times. We had a view of the central Square which had huge screens and a buzz of traffic and tourists. Highlights - the buffet breakfast is literally 10/10 and every day the menu differs slightly. We appreciated the friendly warm staff and expert chefs preparing international and Vietnamese classics. The two swimming pools were a welcome break from sightseeing and the fitness centre has all you need for a workout. I used the sauna too which was great. The lack of sockets is always a slight issue in older hotels but we managed to charge our phones by unplugging lamps or the kettle! A convenient lighting and clock control was beside the bed. Room was made up every morning by an exceptional team of cleaners. Our only issues were around quality of sleep- the streete noise wasn't the issue, some mornings there seemed to be a 7am conference below us which was a disruption for a couple having a relaxing holiday. The curtains were not blackout which meant we awoke with the sun at 6ish, fully glowing into the room. For a 5* I'd expect full blackout curtains and better soundproofing. Overall a great stay for four nights in October."

"Having travelled around Vietnam we arrived in Ho Chi Minh. Staff advised I was getting a room upgrade but it was smaller than my friends room / bed which was the standard offering. Free gift that we were due to receive did not materialise. Breakfast was very good and great to have laundry facilities. Feel that staff could have been friendlier and offer more help at all points. Pool was lovely. There is not a bar or lounge to sit at in the evening which was disappointing."

"Stayed for a night between flights. Very quick and professional hotel shuttle bus pickup and the hotel is less than 5 minutes drive from the airport. Compact room with very comfortable bed but the highlight for me was spending time in the rooftop pool overlooking the airport. Wonderful way to prepare for the flight home. Also there’s a great coffee shop in the hotel lobby. Great place to stay!"

"We loved our stay at Somerset. The staff was always so helpful, kind, and patient with the kids. We requested to upgrade our stay and it was a smooth process. The staff transferred our belongings to the new room which we appreciated so much. The rooms were spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. The kids enjoyed the buffet breakfast and loved having the “daily detox” drink available at the lounge. I also used the gym which was handy. I gave 4 stars because of location (it’s pretty central and accessible, but the place has a lot of traffic esp during peak times. Thank you Somerset for having us."

"Appreciated the car shuttle to and from the airport. If you’re looking to save money, calling a Grab from the airport would be cheaper but taking the shuttle to the airport (terminal 2) would be cheaper. The hotel was so clean and so well maintained. A single room has a double bed and is typical size for Asia but small for outside Asia. Comes with toothbrushes, shampoo, soap, TV, a firm bed, desk and chairs. Breakfast ends at 9:30. Be sure to go at least 15 minutes before closing. Good stay."
