Lover's Leap Lodging, a real Montana experience
Lover's Leap Lodging is 1.2 miles from public access on the Beaverhead River below the promontory that marks the point of "Clark's Lookout" along the Lewis and Clark Trail. This 4 bedroom home is available year around for short and longer stays. The owners, Sandy and Jeannie, are experienced hosts . They are both from Montana pioneering families and can answer most any question about the history and events in the area. Children are welcome and will love their room with bunk beds.
Sandy is in the process of retiring from the ranch on Horse Prairie where he has lived all of his life. He is a musician/songwriter and he and Jeannie are founders and directors of the Dillon Junior Fiddlers. Jeannie is a multimedia artist, working mostly in paint and stained glass. Original art decorates the walls of the house.
The whole house is available for guests.
Lover's Leap Lodging is located about 5 minutes from downtown Dillon, yet has all the charm of rural living. The property is nine acres, and the view is spacious. There are several out buildings where Sandy is currently housing his collectables. Old car buffs will love his old cars.

The house was very nice. It was a little chilly in there, but they did have space heaters for the rooms if needed. It was very nice and quiet where we were, but still close enough to town. I will definitely book this place again.
We were very grateful to have a cozy, warm place to stay in Dillon. The hosts were responsive and friendly. The house was nicely furnished, lots of space. We especially enjoyed the artwork in every room!
Really enjoyed the location and close proximity to downtown. It was the perfect fit for our fishing trip and just the right size. The two twin beds were a little uncomfortable but I put an extra quilt or two on it to cushion those springs.
We are full time RVers and like to stay out of the RV every now and then. This house was a great place to give us all the space we need. Our Cavaliers loved the room to roam. The huge jetted bath tub was amazing!

ok...
I don't want to jump on here and just say the bad... so bear with me.
I did not receive an email with info to obtain access to the property. Tried to call/text host with no answer. Had to call VRBO directly and finally was able to touch base and get the code to enter property, etc. Not the worst thing, don't get me wrong.
Second, no air conditioning. Granted, the listing does not mention whether it has A/C or not, so I should not have assumed, but unfortunately, in the middle of summer and days that are the hottest days of the year, not having air conditioning was frustrating. I'm sure staying there in the fall, spring or winter when the temps are not as extreme it works just fine, but when the temps are in the 90's mid-summer, no thanks.
Otherwise, the house was clean inside and certainly worth staying at (if A/C was not an issue). The property (outside the house) was less than ideal but we were not there for that. Inside the house, clean, rooms were what we expected, had everything. There were fans to accomodate for the lack of A/C but...
This property was perfect for our family to gather before and after a family funeral. The property is interesting and has room to roam around and look at interesting relics from the past. The drive to the property proved to be equally interesting. Jeanie was so understanding and accomodating.

Disliked: Location
Sketchy neighborhood.
The house is very clean inside, the house is extremely outdated. The neighborhood is extremely sketchy, so much so that I was scared to open the windows for air. The land is not manicured whatsoever.
It was close to town so was easy to get to from the rodeo and again very clean and easy instructions.
Not much to say about what we liked other than spacious. This is located in a terrible location, felt unsafe. Also, the dishes and pots & pans needed to be replaced. We could not use the oven as it had been sprayed with cleaner and not wiped out clean. They advertise barbecue grill which also needed to be replaced. No outdoor seating but we wouldn't sit outside due to location. We would never recommend this place and we find it hard to believe the ratings this place received.
I do want to mention the Host has refunded us because we had to get a hotel due to the condition of the property - ie. We found a mouse in the toilet and appeared nobody had checked on the property prior to our arrival.
The refund was much appreciated.
Communication prior to arrival with host was poor. Questions were not answered. I called VRBO customer service and they were not able to get a response from them either.

Check in was fine. FINDING the place was confusing for each in separate cars - not well marked despite fairly specific directions.Appliances & electronics all fine & worked fine. Plenty of hot water; nice big place; plenty of room. Loved the big blue bathtub; lots of nice fluffy white towels; lots of artwork; reasonably comfortable beds, albeit microfiber sheets NOT comfortable, cotton much better.Biggest downsides were 1) host not paying attention to comments from other guests. Windows mostly open, but several blinds don't work or broken. Missing light bulbs, so lights don't work. 2) Misleading photo on website: the place is neglected - see photos. The place is cleanish, but not clean, esp. kitchen. The yard is totally neglected. The neighborhood is junky. The picture of the exterior is NOT an accurate representation of how it looks in 2025 - for one thing, it's green now, not grey. The patio has loose rock slabs covering broken cement -- it's so uneven that it's difficult to walk on! Entrance area to kitchen has floorboard that's broken, "mended" once with heater duct tape. Possibly worst is obvious mold smell/presence in main bathroom.
Good beds and linens. Furniture was good and working appliances. Could use some repairs to blinds in kitchen and on patio door. Quiet area and peaceful at night.
