Bridge Out! This picture shows what is left of a bridge on the Colne Valley railway. The railway embankment to the right as far as White Colne was a nature reserve managed by Essex wildlife Trust http://www.essexwt.org.uk/ however management has now passed back to the local authority. The photo was taken looking upstream.

Halstead Circular Walk The countryside immediately around Halstead is green and rolling with the valleys of the rivers (particularly the Colne and Stour) opening out as they head towards the sea, and then they reach the sea in a series of creeks and sunken valleys. There are lots of pretty villages around - see Thaxted, Finchingfield, Castle Hedingham and Coggeshall for examples. The Castle at Castle Hedingham is definitely worth a visit - one of the most impressive and intact Norman keeps around. Close by is Colchester that has a wealth of history as (arguably) Britain's oldest town, with origins well before the Roman era. There are Roman remains and the museum in Colchester Castle (another massive Norman keep) is excellent. #essex #suffolk #sunset #countryside #rural #eastanglia #england #britain #uk
