A beautiful old hotel in the heart of Epping. The decor is really nice and the staff are warm and friendly. The room has everything you need and the bed is comfortable. The food (breakfast and dinner options) is exceptional. I would highly recommend this hotel.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had an amazing stay at the Funky Monk Epping Hotel and Restaurant. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with a complimentary welcome drink, which was a lovely touch. The room was absolutely amazing; comfortable, stylish, and spotless. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome the entire time. The restaurant was outstanding, the food was unreal and easily one of the highlights of our stay. Everything was perfectly cooked and full of flavour. We couldn’t fault a thing. Highly recommend the Funky Monk for both accommodation and dining. We’ll definitely be back!

This is a lovely boutique hotel with quirky rooms and decor situated in a lovely little town with some lovely little shops and cafes . We especially loved Gail’s bakery ! The staff were very friendly and helpful but be Prepared for loud music and parties into the early hours as it’s a popular weekend and Christmas venue ! Would definitely stay there again !

A funky place!

The hotel provides a lovely space to spend time. The service was excellent with great food served in the room. We particularly liked breakfast being served AFTER 0900 allowing for a sleep in and relaxing morning to check out. A rare treat

Very welcoming and friendly staff. Offered us a welcome drink which was lovely and we could use our rooms to drop our items as they had already been cleaned which was very helpful as we were in the area for a wedding. The amenities and room were great and bed was very comfortable. We were told that there would be live music until 11.30 and drinks available downstairs in the bar until 1pm but weren’t made aware of the loud music that would be playing which did continue until 1:30pm - we were staying on a Saturday night so am sure this wouldn’t be the case if staying on other days. We arrived back late from the wedding anyway but I wish we had been aware of this prior to booking as I had to stay awake for a good hour until the music was turned off. I would recommend staying here but if you don’t want to be involved in the late night music, it would be best to stay here outside of Friday and Saturday night.

Breakfast served too late

The accommodation was lovely and the staff were friendly. However, I've given 4 stars as breakfast isn't served until 9am - we used the hotel for business purposes so a late breakfast was unsuitable, given the cost breakfast should have been available.

Parking is very limited. Rooms were dark and small and in need of renovation. The bathroom was freezing and extremely small. There was no hot water. The breakfast was nice and the staff were lovely.

Mixed feelings about this property! My room and bed was very comfortable, the towels were big and fluffy. The staff were lovely... however, the kitchen closed so we had to go elsewhere for dinner, and no staff was on hand when I awoke the next morning and had to hand in my key to the cleaning staff.

Funky Monk Epping

Really lovely looking hotel inside. The decor is really inviting. Chic and cool and a bit quirky. Absolutely love it. The bar restaurant is very roomy as well. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The manager or owner even offered to carry my heavy bag out to the taxi after storing it for me after checkout. My room wasn’t big, but I only had the standard one. Beautifully decorated though in the same quirky and comfortable vibe. I would definitely try this hotel again next time. It’s brilliantly positioned for the heart of Epping which was great as I had no transport. The one problem I had (which is why I didn’t give 5 stars was with the door key which you have to use to let yourself into the building at night as well as into your room. Luckily my key worked that night but stopped again first thing but i was able to find a lady cleaning who let me in again. Apparently this was an unusual problem which I’m sure they have sorted out already If definitely stay here again. Lovely people very helpful and kind. Breakfast in the restaurant was lovely 😻 .

The hotel and bar were lovely; the only thing to mention was the live music in the bar was incredibly loud from the bedroom but if you don’t need an early night on Friday or Saturday it’s a lovely place to stay. By chance, I only interacted with Lily on the staff all weekend and she was attentive, accommodating and very friendly throughout my stay. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay!

We asked hotel to confirm we could have a parking space, they confirmed by email but neglected to mention it would cost £15. Check on was great, friendly person and helpful. Room was nice but metal clothes rack by bed didn’t leave much room and I bashed my knee on drawer knob. Venue was not great for sleep, they had very loud music until 01:15 an we did not sleep well as road was also loud from quite early. Breakfast was ok but staff were everywhere still cleaning up, kept walking past with cleaning products and hoovering and mopping while we were eating which wasn't very nice. Person that served us was nice but manager was nowhere to be found and didn’t appear for check out so having to leave feedback here. Would not recommend staying here on a weekend. Shame as could have been lovely.

Took a while to check in. Took even longer to check out. Everywhere in the area closes very early and the only option if you’ve not preplanned
